ARE YOU SURE YOUR PHONE WAS ORIGINALY SHIPPED BY DTM DEUTCH T-MOBILE CARRIER ?

The problem is that I’ve downloaded the most of these firmwares and not one fitted in my phone. The names of the files didn’t match to the names of the folders (only some of them did match).

No I’m not shure that the phone was shipped by DTM. But that was just the German file in the list.

Could the phone possibly be imported, is there any trace of branding suggesting the original carrier? I guess you searched already.

No branding or stuff like that. I don’t know. But don’t think so.

Back to heimdall, you could try compiling it.

https://doc.e.foundation/how-tos/build-heimdall

Perhaps the GUI would give you more clues?

I don’t understand that. I can get the PIT file from the phone? How to do that?

@ aibd: Heimdall frontend is running on my computer now. This is not the problem. The problem is that the files are not fitting to the folders.

A tool Samfirm is mentioned in this post.

Thank you. I will try this.

I downloaded the firmware

VOD-I9305XXUFNL1-20150209155758.zip

from samfrew.com then I tried to install the files. There are the following files:

boot.img
cache.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
recovery.img
sboot.bin
SS_DL.dll
system.img
tz.img

Some of the files I could install with heimdall frontend. But with the following files heimdall says:

Error: Setting up interface failed!

system.img
boot.img
recovery.img

Also the .bin files and the .dll I could not install.

Edit :
On a “old” phone for witch no new update / upgrade will be ever released by Samsung,
Exact CSC No realy matter for using custom OSes, as we wipe /system and /data, the carriers addson apps will be erased
Important is the used CSC contains the right cellular bands used by the carrier in the country.

IN YOUR CASE, you could use ”DBT" witch is Deutsch free of carrier and all Deutsch carrier capable

it is not a firmware file, it is just needed for download or extract

it was windows only and no more working

The Link with the IMEI CHECK was a good idea. My device is the

GT-I9305/DS VD2

.

I found this firmware that I could install completely.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANroHCbVASc
https://techn3d.blogspot.com/

But the problem is still the same. e-0.17-n can not be installed. It stopped in the middle of the installation process.

Guess again this is not the right firmware.

Good progress, this would seem to account for failure to load /e/.

Here is a start of a way to see how far wrong this device is, now you know a more reliable device code.

Look into the build instructions for i9305.

You are looking for references to the device tree.

Collect

adb shell getprop

from the running Android firmware.

See if you can locate major or minor differences between the device tree sources and your getprop.

This still puts you quite a long way from the solution, but might help you decide whether to pursue this task.

You might even try to build your own!

PS I hope I understood you correctly that you had a good Android firmware, running and stable?

PPS Is GT-I9305/DS VD2 confirmed in the print at the head of Android recovery (when you boot Samsung firmware into Recovery mode)?

Bon chance

Same problem with Replicant. I installed it but then the sim card was not recognized.

https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/SIMnotRecognized

So you finally have success flashing on your device !
" the latest VD2 samsung firmware for i9305",
is gsm / LTE works using this stock android 4.4.4

Then You have installed
TWRP but witch version ?
The recommended patch ? or not ?
0.17 /e/OS nougat.

But as I understand using /e/, you cannot use GSM / LTE .
is the error message “no sim” or “no network” ?

I actually installed the version twrp-3.5.2_9-1-i9305.img. But before I had twrp-2.8.7.3-i9305.img. Both images worked well.

I installed the recommended patch before installing 0.17 e-OS.

When i setup the software after installation the OS says no sim card.

if you have tried with patch using TWRP 3.5

I want to say :

  1. Try without patch using TWRP 3.5
  2. Try with the patch but using TWRP 2.8

But does it works under Stock Samsung Android 4.4.4 KitKat ?

  1. Try with e-0.16

I don’t know what you mean. The phone worked with Android 4.4. I could call people with it. I deleted Android by installing first Replicant and then installing e-OS. But is there a way to re-install Android? I am tired of installing a software that doesn’t run. I also need a phone.

@h2b2, please can you explain in different words what you meant at this point, thanks.

Tl;dr: Install this zip

Indeed, SIM card is not detected, but I got it working thru this post.

Thanks to Glenn2 , Fearless (SP) and Spielmops @xda!
