Install e/OS on Fairphone 6

Hi all

I just received the new Fairphone 6 (Google-Android version). Can I install e/OS on it using the installer for Fairphone 5?

Thank you
Marco

Most definitely not!
Install files are highly device dependent.
Just wait for install files and documentation for FP6, or for compatibility with the /e/OS installer.

Thank you for your reply. Will wait for the installer…

You may wait for indefinite time for something that should fail to install /e/ on your device,
Safer, easier and faster is to apply recommanded install-script

It should not fail.
It could, but we’ll just have to see.

… which isn’t there either at the moment.

/e/OS installer for FP6 is online but I cannot activate OEM unlocking (activate button is not active). Do you know a workaround about this?

Thanks
Marco

I could activate it by entering the code, that I generated with: FairphoneBootloaderUnlocking

However, I am stuck afterwards using the automatic installer and get:

Device model not supported

Your phone The Fairphone (Gen. 6) is not compatible

you can’t install /e/OS using this tool

Same with my phone at the moment…

I enabled OEM unlock but I cannot reboot on fastboot:

~ adb reboot bootloader
error: device still authorizing

~ adb devices
List of devices attached
******** authorizing

Why does the authorisation take so long?

I connected my phone to a different USBport on the desktop PC and FP6 has been authorized

However, I am lost after
5. Reboot on fastboot by running the command in the PC console adb reboot bootloader

If I choose “Start” here

then the phone just boots normally.

What to select?
How do I know that the phone rebooted on fastboot?

What you see on the screenshot is the fastboot / bootloader. So you do not have to do anything on the phone, but proceed with the next step

The next step just switches off the device:

  1. Ask for unlock with fastboot flashing unlock
  2. Approve with volume + then power
The device proceed with a factory reset, and automatically reboots

On PC

fastboot flashing unlock
< waiting for any device >

Pressing volume + then power switches off the phone:
Volume + selects “Power Off” instead of “Start”.

Why does the screenshot say “DEVICE STATE - locked”?
OEM unlock is enabled.

for step 6: Apparently you PC does not find you device connected in fastboot. Maybe unplug and plug it in again once in fastboot. Also try different USB ports.

Unless you get another screen on your phone that asks you to confirm the command from your PC to unlock, you cannot proceed to step 7.

The command in step 6 does the actual unlocking.
What you did before was allowing to have the phone unlocked, not actually unlocking.

Please can you confirm that you have taken this step from

Requirements

Your device requires a code to unlock the bootloader. Get the code here before proceeding with the next steps.

It is important to have fully read and understood the full instructions.

Yes, OEM unlock is enabled:
System / Entwickleroptionen / OEM-Entsperrung

With sudo it seems to work:

sudo fastboot flashing unlock
[sudo] Passwort fĂĽr klt:
OKAY [ 0.035s]
Finished. Total time: 0.035s

I can confirm on unlocking on the phone.

The phone rebooted again in to the FP-OS and asks again for initial setup.
Now I am stuck in Step 8:

Reboot again into bootloader

I guess that I shall say adb reboot bootloader
(Reboot on fastboot =?= Reboot into bootloader)
but

adb reboot bootloader
error: no devices/emulators found

Yes. You can also just power down the phone and press Power + Volume down - this starts fastboot as well
