Install Script for /e/ OS fails on delete 'misc' partition

Hello Community,

i was very excited to get my new FP6 and flash a de-googled Android on it. I chose /e/ OS since it’s officially supported, but still found myself unable to get it working. Hope you guys can help.

Followed this guide to the letter,
https://doc.e.foundation/devices/FP6/install
solved a few bumps along the road (e.g. ADB USB driver != fastboot USB driver) and got the script to work. Kind of.

First run it copied over the first bluetooth file but then got stuck on the 2nd with no error message.
Fiddling around a bit, but ultimately just running it again, I got to the point where I’m stuck now. Console output:

I found this post that had the same problem, but unlike him I couldn’t solve it by “trying again”.

Install e/OS on Fairphone 6

I just tried to install /e/os on a brand new fp6. Sadly the install aborts everytime at the same command: chmod +x flash_FP6_factory.sh && ./flash_FP6_factory.sh INFO: You are using a Linux distribution. When I boot the phone now I get the Murena Logo instead of the Fairphone logo, so it partially worked apparently, but then it throws me back to the bootloader menu. From there I can also get into the FastbootD menu and have fastboot connection to my PC. So it’s not bricked, but I need advice on how to proceed. With manual flashing commands, if need be.

The tail of your log tells what to do … unless this did not work, sorry you tried already

The script will be just fine from Fastboot mode. (fastbootD would / might allow to interfere or adjust but I think you should avoid … the script will aim to rewrite all needed partitions correctly.)

… and the old one … check the full USB chain … best data cable, (for better transmission maybe “high capacity” ??) , generally avoid hubs (unless known and tested) beware the possibility of a hub hidden in a laptop, try to connect the USB cable to the PC/ laptop USB port soldered to the motherboard.

I’m somewhat skeptic it would do all adb and fastboot commands just fine, copy files over, but then suddenly break down when it comes to erasing a partition(?). But I tried different cables and USB ports anyway. 4 cables, 3 worked/choked on the same command, tried ports on the front and back of the PC.

yes, I was a good boy and tried that as well. Which was a PITA without the proper tool, but I did manage it in the end without too much damage.

Writing seems to work, just deleting ‘misc’ fails. In the “Full output” you can probably see I started from fastbootD mode, but naturally I tried both, anyway.

Understood, according to the script in the

"${CLEAN_FLASH}" = "true"

we are using, then (if I read it right) erase is

erase_images and format_images

so there may be more tx than one might first guess (??).

Is it possible that MinGW on Windows is conspiring against you, idk.

Not at all! Sorry if I gave you this impression. Not sure what exactly, but maybe my tone was a little annoyed because I was frustrated to have worked on it all day to no avail.
And I was editing a few bits, after the initial post where I was possibly misunderstanding.

Yeah I was planning on trying it again using Linux, but I found another solution: I modified the script to not try and erase ‘misc’.
I just deleted these 5 characters from line 11:

I hope this won’t come back to bite me in the future, but so far no problems!
