Installation on brand new Pixel8

I have just purchased a (second hand) Pixel 8. G-android installation is not yet completed (no user installed, phone just out of the box). Do I have to install G-android completely (with perhaps a fake user) before installing eos or can I proceed directly with the web-based installation?

Thank you for your suggestion!

Eric

Well, you should check the security patch and if you are on Android 16?

If security patch is May 2025 or higher, then you won’t be able.

Here is the disclaimer on Pixel 8 (red box when you look at the site):

Hello @Eric98,Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

You need Android 15 as a requirement !

Is it not a little bizarre that the Pixel8 model still appears as an officially supported phone in the Smartphone Selector page > Murena is still selling it, so how do they install their own system on it?

it was sold, but not today : https://murena.com/products/smartphones/

Hello Piero, thank you for pointing me to this page. On the other side, the link I had in my previous message ( Smartphone Selector ) is stil active and is definitively misleading then. It would be nice if someone would care to remove the inaccurate information instead of having to have people waste time in searching in forums

I bought my new Pixel 8 on January 29th 2026. Updated to Android 16 (automatically selected by the Pixel OS). Then installed /e/os with web installer. Everything worked well, only had to lock the bootloader through command line afterwards.

Phone is running perfectly fine.

I’m not very technical, but I guess you could give it a try? Good luck
