Installing Brave Add-On Without Signing In To Google?a

This may be a question more appropriate for another forum, but I thought I’d try here first: I’m giving Brave a try as my main browser. I’d like to install the Proton Pass add-on on it so that I have access to all my passwords without having to find my little book o passwords every time I sign in to a new website on my murena. However the only way to install the add on appears to be to sign in to google. Is there another way?

Or if there is no other way…am I just making too big a deal of this?

I’d like to not sign into google even once on this device. In my mind that makes it harder for them to link the usage on this device to my use of other devices. But maybe it doesn’t matter, since I won’t be installing software allowing google to track me in some way continuously? Or else maybe it doesn’t matter because they would sooner or later figure out who was using this device anyhow just because their ad sense things on websites would tell them?

Obviously I’m somewhat new to all this, so thanks for your patience.

Cheers

You can install Proton Pass as an app from F-Droid, no Google needed.

For PC, there is a browser extension. No need to sign in to Google.

Hi @descrato , thanks for responding.

I guess I should have said: I did this already. I have proton pass installed on my phone, but it seems like if I want it to give me options to fill in login info on my browser, I also need the plugin. At least when I use the browser to navigate to somewhere with a login–I just tried a forum I’ve been on for years and is certainly in the passwords I imported from my old browser–it does not offer to fill in the login details. I figured this was because I needed to download the plugin.

Or am I failing to turn on Proton Pass somehow? I’ve certainly opened it before and checked to see that it has login info that I had saved on my old browser. That seems intact.

So unless the solution is to install the brave addon I’m a bit puzzled what to do.

Did you give proton pass required app permissions? I’m using Bitwarden with my devices and it works flawlessly.

@descrato that…is a good question. It is possible that I denied it permission to something that I thought it wouldn’t or shouldn’t need. I’m not 100% sure but it’s definitely possible. Any idea how I can–if this is the problem–fix this?

From the eOS main screen with all the apps I navigated to Settings → Apps → Proton Pass (App info) → Permissions and under “Allowed” it says “no permissions allowed” but under “Not Allowed” it just says “Camera” which…I have no clue why it would need my camera and can’t see why that would screw any of this up. I can give it camera access, though.

Hmm, I see the problem may simply be that proton pass doesn’t play well with all android devices.

Shame.
