Installing on a Fairphone 4

I do not post in forums often, and I am not a coder, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. I have ordered a Fairphone 4. I would like to install e/os. From previous posts on this forum, it appears that I should install via the command line rather than use the web installer. Hopefully there won’t be any problems. Is there anything I should know before I proceed, like how have previous users gotten into problems?

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

Read the install instructions Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP4 - “FP4” at least 3 times. If Windows / Linux is a choice for you, try to decide early which you are likely to be most familiar with for this sort of task (and say which you are using if you ask for support). There is one good thing about /e/OS Installer, you can run through the introductory pages before you even connect your fp4. This will guide you through some maybe unfamiliar “first steps”.

A thing people often ask about is “boot into Bootloader”. This appears in the install page, explore the subject until you know exactly what this is before you commit and be familiar with the Bootloader screen.

Maybe I would be less likely to run into problems with the web installer. I’m using Debian. I did plug my phone in, and I got a message that said the phone couldn’t connect, but I was still able to browse files on my phone. Maybe it was the cable and the USB port. I didn’t actually try to run the installation yet. I will look at it again when I get home.

If you have been reading the install page you will at least be better informed if the Web Installer fails to complete.

One big downside of eosinstaller is that there is no documented way to get a log if the installer fails. Please do read one or two threads with those two hashtags before you commit.

Thank you, on that subject we did get this feedback from a user in response to similar comment

Actually, the phone came with e/os. So I didnt have to bother with the installation. This phone may not be the latest and greatest, but it has twice as much ram as my last phone, and no Google. It had typical social media apps for me to download, but I think if i’m going to have social media on my phone, I might as well have Google. I am almost dissappointed because I wanted to try it, maybe Ill buy a really cheap phone that wouldnt be a disaster if I bricked.
