I have a Fairphone 4 running /e/, purchased from Murena. I’m in the US with T-Mobile.
WiFi calling always worked great after I turned it on (right after buying the phone a couple years ago).
Then a few months ago, it developed an intermittent problem with WiFi calling. I didn’t change anything, except maybe updating the operating system and apps as updates became available.
I would say WiFi calling is not working about 20-25% of the time. It will stop working for a few hours to a couple days at a time. It seems to stop working apropos of nothing, and start working again apropos of nothing, no rhyme or reason that I can discern.
The WiFi internet works fine, no problems there. The cellular connection works fine (when there’s a signal, unfortunately I live in the mountains and there’s no cellular signal at home). Calling and texting works fine over cellular. Calling and texting works fine over WiFi calling - except when this intermittent problem appears.
When the problem is active, and I try to call someone, I get the error “Turn off airplane mode or connect to a wireless network to make a call.” even though I am connected to a wireless network and the internet is working fine. When I try to send a text, it says “Failed to send. Tap to try again”. Also I don’t get incoming calls when the problem is active, nor incoming texts (I get the texts later when the problem stops or I’m connected to cellular).
Calling and texting through VOIP apps like Signal and Matrix are unaffected and continue to work fine since this is only a problem with WiFi calling.
As I said this problem only started a few months ago. Prior to that it always worked.
Welcome any suggestions. Thanks!
