Intsllation e os on pixel 8 or 9a

I am looking atinstalling E OS, and was told that it is not overly hard ot install with out th einstaller.

I also noticed that on a number of Pixels(pixel 8 not included), the play store integrity is basic. What does that mean?

I am looking at gettiong aphone and tryign it.

I tried long ahgo an dfailed. Some one did help me, an deventually, th ephone stopped working after an upgrade. It wa salso nolonger on the compatible list. I stopped using e os then.

Thanks for help, assistance and guidance.

Play Integrity is a racket owned by Google.

This is how they introduce it to app developers

Google Play’s integrity and signing services help you to ensure that users experience your apps and games in the way you intend.

There are 3 levels. Level 3 amounts to pure unadulterated Google.

Level 1 (named Basic) allows some Google dependent apps to behave correctly.

Many here avoid Google anyway.

MiroG is importantly used in /e/OS. microG | /e/OS documentation gives some insight.

Hi

I was aware of the google store.

I need to know whatit mans in plain english.

On th ephone tht Murena sells, the pixel 8, it says Basic. It seems like on all other phone not sold by murena, they says “basic - to be confirmed”. What does that mean? Buy a to be confirmed phone, install it, and it “might” work?

Buying a phone and setting it up takes time and money. Just want to make sure that it wi actualy work:)

I am not here to coplain, just understand what the implications of using one phone vs another.

Thanks

Joseph

Lets say that Intergrity is the state of being whole, entire and implied trustworthy.

Our Advertising agency masters devise a test and a score from 0, 1, 2, 3.

The device with a score 3 can be trusted by app developers and Google clients to fully harvest the behaviour and data of the consumers using the device.

The device I use with a community release has a score of zero (not Basic); Google cannot tell their clients that they can reliably harvest my data.

A device with score 1, Basic, will have a locked bootloader and appear to be connected to a named Google account. This device is said by Google to have a higher integrity.

Pixel 8 shiba is available with official release and a lockable bootloader.

Pixel 9a tegu has a community release, the bootloader cannot be locked.

  • Stated “basic (to be confirmed)”
    • My own view this would not meet Basic integrity today but this “integrity” is a moving target, no certainty.

So, if integrety is a moving target with a community release, and itis unknown of/when we will be able to use the google store, than it possibly might not work.

Why is one lockable and the other not? They are all E OS, right? THose not officially supported/released by murena, do not get the lockable version?

A big draw to e oS, is not being watched from google taking data form me, as well as the ability of using google store. When google store is not available, they ease of use is reduced wince apps I need and not available.

The only way seems to be to use an official release, right?

I guess it is a moving target as Google do not tell us in advance to exactly what extent that they want to recover their project from the privacy crowd. It is a racket, is where I started from.

Twice your response has been of “Google Store”. Somehow I do not seem to communicate that integriry is quite different.

Without any “integrity” I visit Play Store anonymously but do not accept over networked nor privacy disrespecting apps.

Actually I have an FP3 which I could potentially lock but it remains unlocked. I have zero interest in banking via mobile phone.

It is a moving target, but why not for the ones that Murena seemed to have lockable versions? It does not seem to be the none of them work, but Murena has made some of them work. Why do the others not work? Murena was able to make some work.

That being said, it seems that I do not get it,. What can and can not be done when integrity is not had? What is it truly needed for? While you might not use phone for banking, what othr software needs integrity, and can one safely say that most apps will work, regardless if integrety is working?

I would assert that Play Integrity is very much not in the interest of users but is simply part of Google’s attempt to get full control of their project to harvest consumer data. That’s their fat fee for providing hardware manufacturers with a free operating system. Further, perhaps Google’s current direction travel is unwelcome.

But here I am just repeating and enlarging my view.

Your questions of

all require consideration.

Play Integrity in “plain English” less so; I think.

Why would I need integrity? What software uses/needed it? Will all other software work fine? You have me read things, but the long and short of it is that I am a regular user with a little DIY skills who wants to replace a android or apple phone with a non tracking phone.

Long story short: If an app is checking the integrity status of your phone, it maybe won’t work. But nobody can say that an app will or won’t work on your phone. It all depends on your specific setup (bootloader locked/unlocked, microG-settings, etc.) and the app, and everything can change after an app-/OS-/microG-update.

Thank you @AeroBert I think that you have addressed my unfortunate use of “moving target” when I gave my own opinion for “basic to be confirmed” in Post #4.

@smokinjo, I think Understanding Google’s Play Integrity From Scratch makes quite a good job of a deeper plain English view.

I get it.

But you are asking about a negative facet of Google’s offering from which you would like to be removed.

Is quite difficult to predict. Apps are built in Android Studio; developers using the system are encouraged to take advantage of Play Integrity if they want to take advantage of Google “Trust” (that is Google’s variant of trust), making such apps (increasingly) problematic in a degoogled phone.

Take banking organisations for example, they might choose to use it for their app. However a large number of banks will offer services which work just fine from a Browser.

A very large number of app developers would much rather Keep Android Open. It is apps from such developers that I would prefer to use.

(This presentation is rather alarmist unless read in its entirety.)

100% accordance. In my dream reality everything would be open source, outcome- and not income oriented and transparent .

So if I understand it correctly, the use of applications is hit and miss. In theory all apps work, but yet it seems it is heavily dependant on your E os set up.

Is this the same for FDroid apps? Is there another source of apps?

I use various apps on my phone so the move to e os would be, possibly, to live with out a variety apps I use/need.

That’s it with Aurora Store/Play Store where the apps depend on Google developers tools. F-Droid is a common source for open source apps that will work on most de-googled devices. And then there is GitHub, where you can sideload .apk’s. If you look at the star-ratings, you can decide, if the app ist trustworthy and safe for your needs.

And besides of that, your last sentence spells the truth: I came from iPhone, and the apple ecosystem seems to be completely perfection. But it’s a walled garden. Very beautiful, if you feel comfortable in it. But if you once see the walls and take a look outside, you feel the need to get rid of it and be free. Maybe for a cost of leisure and beauty, and maybe you will lose this or that app, but there are so many other great solutions outside, much more than in every app store.

Personally I have no hit and miss. I degoogled my phone before I discovered /e/OS as I have Pathological Goggle Avoidance Syndrome.

Generally I expect privacy respecting apps to be much less likely to be affected by Play Integrity.

App Lounge includes a feature to collect privacy scores from reports generated by

Do you use a lot of Google dependent apps?

You could use these two resources to check the apps important to you:

and

Both sources are available as an app installable in regular Android.

Thanks for your reply. It is a simple reply showing ideas and usable examples on what to do.

I will go ahead and try finding a new phone and installing. I hope to get help from people like yourself here, if/when i have issues.

Thanks for your reply
