I use a FP4 with two SIMs, one of which is an eSIM. If I flash e/OS to replace stock ROM, will the eSIM keep working?
I don’t remember if I ever tried your question but I know when you want to reset a phone you can check a box for eSIM removal. Check maybe on stock what it shows. There is also an option to just remove eSIM.
I tried this on the FP5:
- Installed eSIM while using Stock FairphoneOS
- unlocked bootloader / etc (including forced factory reset)
- Installed /e/OS community (I need
adb root) - eSIM still working very well without redeploying
I still wonder, whether deploying a new eSIM would work…
All that said: This is obviously NO guarantee that it works for you. And it is obviously highly recommended, that you have an alternative plan (getting a QR code / whatever from your provider?).
Adding eSIM worked for me on Pixel 4a when I used it, also others reported on other devices that it works too add new eSIM.
Thank you both. I understand there are no guarantees, but then I will expect it to work, not having to make arrangements upfront. Of course it is good to plan for failure.
I can confirm the eSIM is retained!
I just flashed the FP4 and in the process it seemed to reinstall the standard OS and then already the eSIM was retained. Then after completing procedure the eSIM is still there. So hopefully my experience will help others that might be hesitant. I did check the procedures of my telco to request a new SIM, so I would be prepared for a plan B.
