Is Evil Maid Attack - Car USB

I never locked my phone after installing e/os as I thought the likelyhood of someone getting access to my phone was remote. Whilst plugging my phone into my car today it occurred to me that maybe that’s not safe? Anyone else had this worry? Should I lock it?

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the unGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

It’s certainly possible your car could “evil maid” your phone, but I think that’s pretty unlikely, probably less likely than someone physically doing an evil maid attack.

In any case a locked bootloader does not protect a phone from sideloading. Anything done from the bootloader is going to erase the drive so it doesn’t matter if it’s locked or unlocked.

Locking the bootloader is just not that much of a concern, though some people like to think is. The reason people get obsessed with it is because of the bullshit warning some phones present on boot, but also there are a very few high security apps that require a locked bootloader to function.

Anyway most /e/os compatible phones can not be re-locked. Only official builds can be re-locked and that’s limited to a small number of supported models.

You could always use a charging only cable in the car, that way no data will exchange with the car.

But like CraigHB said highly unlikely. Besides they would have to load something into the media devices in the car or something similar.

My Ford tells me my phone is not compatible anyway. Lots of cars and trucks are trying to brand dictate.

I didn’t know that, more corporate control over your options, imagine that.

Anyway I don’t use Android Auto, it’s disabled on my phones. I’m dreading the point at which I have to get a new car. I’ve heard stories of new cars having problems without a phone hooked up to them. That’s just appalling to me, why does a car need to be a phone on wheels.

Ya so you get in a car and it has Android Auto, not working with iPhone at least I have never heard of it.

But I am pretty sure the newer company truck I drive once in a while, like a 24 GM has both Android Auto and Apple Car Play. I will check in next few days.

I am not even sure what is compatible with my Ford…
