Hello,
I want to migrate someone to /e/OS.
And I would like to know if a regular Nextcloud can be used as a good replacement for the MurenaCloud.
I already have one and especially for file sync 1GB would probably not be enough.
Installing a few plugins would be no problem.
Since I couldnt find anything directly answering my Question in the docs(I know there is an eCloud Beta), it would be njce to know what downsides there are when using a normal NextCloud or if and how it would be possible at all.
Or if there is a hybrid solution, i.e. using the MurenaCloud for some features while using a regular NextCloud/other Cloud providers for data storage etc?
Thanks in advance, sorry if I overlooked a precise answer to this in the docs.
As someone who is using a self-hosted vanilla Nextcloud instance and not the MurenaCloud, I can confirm, that I can
access files on the Nextcloud (I have installed the Nextcloud app)
auto-upload pictures taken with the camera
sync address book, tasks and calendar (with default-installed contacts and calendar app)
sync Notes (with default-installed notes app)
access E-Mails on other IMAP/SMTP-servers, than those of e.foundation (with the default-installed mail app) (actually, this has nothing to do with my Nextcloud server)
I can also confirm that I use my self-hosted (yunohost, Nextcloud Hub 10, 31.0.7) nextcloud instance with e/os. I installed the Nextcloud client from the App store. With Davx5 I can also sync my contacts, notes and agenda.
Initially I connected without any additional apps to my own nextcloud instance. The contacts and agenda was also synced, only the files were not synced. Later on I read someone installed the normal nextcloud (which also synced files) and then I dud my normal setup with Davx5. But right out of the box you can sync contacts and agendas without any additional app.
Cheers, Jan
Although /e/OS comes with an integrated DAVx5, I run into some problems connecting my Nextcloud instance as murena.io (and webdav-) account. For example, the tasks.org app could not find the tasks calendar. But with the “official” DAVx5 and Nextcloud apps (from f-droid), everything runs well.
Unfortunately /e/'s version is a fork of the upstream DAVx5, and - like most forks - falls behind upstream in terms of bug fixes and new features, as well as introducing new bugs. Same is true of /e/'s ‘forked’ NextCloud client functionality (and Notes, and Tasks). Much better to install the upstream versions: they work, they are better tested , and they will work with /e/ / Murena’s hosted (and forked) NextCloud instance
