Is there going to be an OS version upgrade for a discontinued Android version?

Lately I’ve come across this post announcing that support for Android Pie (among others) has been discontinued: https://community.e.foundation/t/week-29-2022-development-and-testing-updates/42705

The post doesn’t mention if there’s ever going to be any automatic upgrade to a newer system for people currently stuck on Pie. There’s a message about OTA system upgrades, but with a caveat that “The OTA upgrades are available on official builds only”, which is unclear together with an announcement that official support for Pie is over.

It also seems that the regular app upgrades for Pie are going to be discontinued soon, because the maintainers have “moved”: https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/backlog/-/issues/5791

(Although in this case they did intervene, eventually)

Are there any explicit plans to bring OTA upgrades to people stuck in the discontinued OS versions? Or are we going to have to flash a new version of the system ourselves?
