Issues with VOLTE on Eastlink

I am placing this in both the Terracube and the e/OS help forums

The phone in question is a Terracube 2e
Android version 12
/e/OS version 2.7-s-20250109460371
e_emerald-user 12 SQ3A.220705.004

Received this from Eastlink. A Canadian provider.
This is a reminder that your current device is not compatible with our upgraded network. To avoid disruption to fundamental services like data, you’ll need to replace your device.

According their customer service either the hardware or the firmware is not compatible with Eastlinks upgraded VOLTE system. The person pointed out that beside the signal strength icon was an R meaning that the phone was roaming on another network namely Bell.

Questions:

  1. Anyone else using a similar phone in Canada.
    If so (a) with Eastlink?
    (b) with bell or another network
    (c) similar issues.

I also have a Fairphone 3 with e/OS and there is no issues with the VOLTE on Eastlink. I am questioning if it is hardware or firmware or just Eastlink service upgrade.

Thanks

Have you tried ##4636## to look at the phones information? The TC 2E does not support 5G which is a really nice feature to have on any Canadian network.

The forum seem to block star character, the command is star#star#4636#star#star

star#star#4636*#*# returns Eastlink Message Connection problem or invalid MMI code.

The characters after the number should be # *# * You have * # * #

Edit * characters were not showing up

Thanks it does make a difference. What a list is there anyway to make a screen shot or download the list?

Place the following symbol before and after the troublesome text string: `
(That symbol is found on the same keyboard key as the ~ symbol.)

That will encapsulate the text so:
*#*#4636#*#*
aka:
*#*#INFO#*#*

@CFA I’m not following your post did *#*#4636#*#* work. If so it should pop up Testing, then check Phone information.

What Phone Information am I looking for? There is so much.

##4636## does work. There is so much info there what do I look for. that indicates that The Terracube 2e or e/PS is not compatible with Eastlink VOLTE.

OK so you are looking in Phone Information below Mobile Radio power is VoLTE Provisioned , it is most likely “greyed out” is the switch in the ON position for VoLTE?

I also live in Canada (as you can see LOL) and I have used both providers Bell and Rogers and VoLTE has always been provisioned.

The info I get is as follows:
Phone 0
IMEI
Phone Number:
Current SubID 2
Subld of default data SIM: 2
IMSI:
Current network: Bell
Roaming: Roaming
Data Service: Disconnected (Looks like Eastlink has disconnected)
Data Network Type: LTE
Voice Service: In Service
Voice Nerwork Type: LTE
Signal Strength -124dBm 16 asu
DL bandwidth (KBPS) 0
UL bandwidth (kbps) 0
LTE Physical Channel Configuration
Set Preferred Network Type:
GSM/WCDMA/LTE(PRL)

Mobile radio Power ON Green
VoLTE provisioned ON Grey
Video Calling provisioned ON Greyed out
Wi-Fi Calling provisioned ON Greyed out
EAB/Presence provisioned OFF Greyed out
Enable DSDS ON Green

So you are provisioned for VoLTE because it is ON. But Data Service is disconnected so that is a problem. Not sure why or how to fix that.

But I do note your on SIM slot 2, I would try putting SIM in slot 1. Worth a try if the Terracube is indeed a dual slot phone.

I checked the SIM slots They are numbered SIM 1 & SIM 2 the card is in SIM 1. I think I’ll check with Bell if there is any issues on their network. I don’t think there should be since the phone keeps roaming to it.
Still do not know if this is firmware or hardware issue.

I would just try the opposite SIM slot to what you have now. Can’t hurt anything.

Tried that also. No difference
Phone keeps indicating it is connected to Bell network and My Fairphone 3 indicates it is connected to Eastlink.
The person at Eastlink we have contacted a few times gave us a list of phones that function on their network, naturally the Terracube or the Fairphone 3 are not on it… The list looks like it supports only the phones they sell.
Both the Terracube 2e and my Fairphone 3 are using the latest version of e/OS.
Both phones are set to automatically choose network, the Terracube chooses Bell and the Fairphone chooses Eastlink, even when they are located within 10 cm of each other.
If the firmware is the same then there could be a difference in the hardware.
Maybe it is time to take the Terracube 2e to Bell. It is a nice phone and it is too new to replace with another Android spy phone.
I tried to manually choose a Network on both phone the Terracube lists Eastlink (sometimes), Bell, Telus, Rogers. It will not connect to Telus, Rogers or Eastlink.

solved this issue. Moved from Eastlink to Bell. Not what I had hoped; but it was either change providers or change phones to one that they sell.
