Junk' folder in Mail not syncing b/c new Microsoft policy (e/OS FP4)

Dear all,

This is my first post, I hope I’m doing it right. I tried to find if this is a known issue, but I can’t find similar issues.

TLDR: how can I change the name of the ‘Junk’ folder of my hotmail account on my FP4 on e/OS? It can’t be done in my Microsoft account, because there it already has the correct name.

Explanation: One of my mail accounts is hotmail (I know - I’m phasing it out, but it takes time). The folder for unwanted mail (‘Ongewenste e-mail’, as named in my local language) had been named ‘Junk’ per default by the Mail app on e/OS.

Since oct 26th, no more mails are syncing in that folder. It turns out that this is Microsoft policy. They sent me an email, saying:

One or more folders in your mailbox have name conflicts with others or system reserved names.

Folders with these names can’t be downloaded by your IMAP e-mail program.

  • Junk

Please connect to your mailbox using your Web browser and rename those folders. Once renamed, those folders will be displayed in your IMAP e-mail application correctly.”

As stated, this doesn’t work.

  • The folder ‘Ongewenste e-mail’ does not show up in my Mail app
  • The folder ‘Junk’ in my mail app used to be synced with ‘Ongewenste e-mail’ but now no longer is.
  • I cannot find any option to change the name ‘Junk’ into ‘Ongewenste e-mail’ on my device.
  • And when I open my Microsoft account in the web browser as adviced in their mail, the folder already has the correct name.

Is this a known issue? And does anyone have the solution? Many thanks for your help!

Agreed, please can you try from your PC’s browser to create an Junk folder within the mail app at murena.io (and perhaps check that that (eventually) syncs with the device before making further changes).

Thanks for replying to quickly!

I have done that successfully just now, and it is syncing with my phone, so the folder ‘Junk’ I created in Murena, shows up on my Mail app. However: this only applies to my Murena.io mail account. Naturally, I cannot access my Microsoft account through the Murena account on my pc’s browser. The folders in my Mail app seem to operate separately below the mail accounts and not jointly.

Thanks for letting me know if I can progress from here on out!
