LG - G5 (International) - h850 - Documentation Suggestions

Please add your suggestions to improve the documentation for the LG - G5 (International) - h850 here …

@tcecyk uncovered an issue in the doc to ~h850.

In item 5 to Install /e/ on a LG G5 (International) - “h850”

There should be no mention to
fastboot flash boot recoveryfilename.img
It apparently writes to boot and causes an infinity loop to the recovery.img until new OS is not sideloaded.

Thanks for pointing this out. Will have it updated.

Also, Item 5 in Booting a custom recovery using fastboot Install /e/ on a LG G5 (International) - “h850” suggest or allows using /e/recovery as well as TWRP.

The next section Installing /e/ from recovery uses specific TWRP terminology not used in /e/recovery, such as

  • In TWRP return to main menu, then tap Wipe
  • Return to the previous menu and tap Advanced Wipe.

IMO, the manual should use /e/recovery menu tree commands (primarily), but also TWRP commands.

The manual may be confusing for novices, when commands from two recoveriess are mixed.

There is another catch that I’m “fighting again and over again”.

in Step 6 in Section Booting a custom recovery using fastboot the way to “boot into recovery” shall be mentioned. The one (and only?) way to keep the flashed recovery and boot into it is to pull the battery and boot into recovery the very next reboot. That is

  • flash the recovery
  • pull the battery
  • press volume down and power
  • wait until LG logo and release power for a second and press power again
  • wait until the “remove user data” windows appears
  • select yes two times on two consecutive screens and
  • the device reboots into the previously flashed recovery

Without the battery pull:

  • there is no way to boot into recovery directly form fastboot
  • the LG OS erased/rewrites the recovery partition

The lastest builds (/e/OS v1.10 and up) never finish booting. They stay on the bouncing /e/ logo forever.

Latest LineageOS versions boot fine though.

Have you found a solution? Which /e/OS version do you recommend installing for the LG G5 H850?

This one works: Samsung Galaxy builds for unsupported devices suggestions - #82 by ronnz98 (yes I know it’s a Samsung thread).

The same applies to the LG V20

I had issues to reboot to recovery using volume down + power. It is worth to mention that adb reboot recovery worked just fine and the device rebooted into recovery.
