Locking the Bootloader will factory reset your device according to installation instructions for FP4?

So after installing e/OS one has to relock the bootloader. Ok.
But then the warning: " Warning: Running the below commands will factory reset your device and wipe all data."
Really?
So with e/OS i have to choose between a permanently unlocked phone or stock OS? If so why then write “After you have completed the installation and verified it starts up successfully, you can lock the bootloader on your FP4.” Like it is some part of the e/OS installation process? It should not even be in the installation manual as it would be part of a roll back.
Or is again some mistake in the documentation?

Thanks.
‘factory reset’ + ‘loose all data’ somehow mad me think → back to FP stock.

Similar situation here. I installed official edition of e/OS on FP4. From the documentation I understood the bootloader would be installed with the official image. In the mean time I’ve used the device for days and have migrated configurations and data. When rebooting today I was greeted with the bootloader unlocked prompt. If I would have known in the installation procedure that it would need an additional step I would have done so. No I’m reluctant to do so, as I’d have to reconfigure the phone again.

There are plus and minus to lock bootloader as discussed here A discussion about bootloader locking/unlocking… AKA I want to relock my bootloader, should I?.

I guess this is why reading the install instructions fully once before you start is improved by assuming most of us really need to read 3 times. :slightly_smiling_face:

The last section of the install page reads

  • After installing all the required files the device will reboot.

Locking the Bootloader

After you have completed the installation and verified it starts up successfully, you can lock the bootloader on your FP4.

@aibd thanks for the info. My bank app still works without locking the bootloader, which would be my main reason to lock it again. I did read the instructioms beforehand, but as the online flasher didn’t prompt me about it, I falsely assumed it was already locked and then just started using the phone.
