Looking for a FM radio application

Hello,

I’m looking for a FM radio application for my Samsung Galaxy A5. I didn’t find any application neither on the App Lounge, nor somewhere else.
Do you know a FM radio application (using tuner FM, without using internet) ?

-I checked the Samsung Galaxy A5 has a tuner FM inside.
-I installed the “NextRadio” application but it is not compatible : “the necessary software is not downloaded”. I don’t really understand this message, perhaps it is due to /e/OS.

Thank you for your answer,

This subject has been covered in the past. Search the forum.
If you’re device has a Qualcomm chipset then RFM Radio should work. If you have Exynos chipset you might be out of luck.

The lack of a radio app is pretty much the only regret I have with /e/OS on my Teracube. One of the reasons I got the device was because of FM radio.

The NextRadio thing is weird. For years I’ve tried to use it on both of my Moto devices that have working FM. Yet that app always fails. Strange.

Thank you for you answer. Unfornately, the Samsung Galaxy A5 has a Exynos chipset.
I looked for solutions in the forum ; I found articles about this topic but I didn’t find a solution.

I was researching this – I cannot build in FM Radio despite its in the /e/ repos https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/os/android_packages_apps_FMRadio.

I seemed to gather that there is a good reason for this; I have quite recently seen this explanation,

Info: for all people who are looking for an fm tunner for a3 (2017) on AOSP ROMs
It uses an Richwave RTC6213N FM Tuner.
Since richwave doesnt provide opensource fm radio sources, its not beeing ported to aosp.
Porting needed libs for arm64 based roms in /system taken from A750FNXXU5CVG2 (Android 10)… :

I am not even sure if this explanation would cover LineageOS and /e/OS builds.

Maybe this helps, as there are more versions:
https://github.com/LineageOS/android_packages_apps_FMRadio

Else, have you tried:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/lineageos/fm-radio-10/variant-{"minapi_slug"%3A"minapi-29"}/

I’ll check which oft my older Samsung devices had working FM radio apps – there were some.

So far…
working FM radio:

  • Galaxy S4mini on Lineage 18.1 with SoC Qualcomm

Excuse the almost year long reply…

Was there an FM app included with the ROM or did you use something else? If the latter, which did you use?

I was very pleased to find working FM Radio is delivered to my Moto G7 Power - ocean currently and certainly since I got it at about e-1.20-t and e-1.17-s. :sunny:

Radio app from /e/ is working fine on Redmi 4X.
No additional intall was needed.

Ah, cool.
The one thing that always bummed me out is that there was no radio app for the Teracube 2e emerald despite the fact there was one on OEM stock.

The Teracube 2e has a MediaTek Helio, which does not seem to be covered by the /e/ Radio app.

Hello from New Zealand. I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S20 5G with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip.
I’m told this may have the ability to activate the FM radio on it - something I use quite frequently as a radio buff.

I tried using an app I found online called RFM Radio but while it installed, it wouldn’t start (and yes, this was with wired earphones connected too).
I saw to activate the radio may require “rooting” the phone but as an absolute amateur at this sort of thing I have no idea what I’m doing.
I guess I’m just looking for some sort of app to download, install, run it (plug and play) and it lets me listen to local FM stations.
I can see some links further up this page to other radio apps but they look like a bunch of files to download and I wouldn’t know where to start. I would love some of install package that did the installation - or at least a step-by-step of what to do.
Can someone make some suggestions to me here? I used to have an A41 (and an A3 2017 before that) and the radio on both of them was awesome.

Thanks in advance

Note that I am happy to post my phone specs if required, if that would help anyone? I think my phone has the correct chipset on it to support the FM radio, just it seems to be disabled.
Ideally (as per above) I’d prefer to just download some sort of install package and run it to get things going.
My S20 5G is great otherwise!

Probably it would still need additional wiring to support FM radio. Does your phone have it?

(The Fairphone 3/3+, for instance, has not while using a chipset theoretically capable … so no FM radio.)
