Looking for Firefox replacement after UI changes

With the recent Firefox update, the UI has changed in a big way and I’m not a fan. The thing I can’t stand most is that the address bar now takes up significantly more vertical space, while having less useful info.

I’m creating this thread to discuss potential alternatives. Personally I haven’t been a fan of anything Chromium based in years, but I won’t turn anything away at this point.

When you give an option, please state its original base (Firefox, Chromium, etc.) and whether it supports Firefox sync properly.

There are several settings for customizing the address bar in Firefox. Go to Settings → Customize.

Maybe it’s better to give the new UI a try for a few days.
If you get used to it, you can still switch to a new browser.

AFAIK, Fennec also uses Gecko (?) as it’s rendering engine, the one developed by Mozilla.

Yeah, I checked already. There’s no way to change the size or go back to the old one.

Fennec seems like it might be a good option. They haven’t updated to the Firefox 148 base yet, so have the old UI. I can’t find a website or anything to say whether they’ll keep the old UI as an option after the next update.

Can you take a screenshot of it??

On my FP3+ it seems to have increased from about 9mm high to 10mm. So, noticeable but personally I’m not finding it an issue in terms of taking up otherwise usable space, especially with having it set to hide when scrolling.

I’m also not seeing any loss of useful information, for me it’s just displayed differently. May be impacted by settings / screen size though?

I like that you can add a bar with buttons below the URL field, makes usage with either hand better. Before it was more just for righthand usage…

I wonder, what size is the display? on a 5.65" screen the changes don’t bother - to the oppositie.

They make more use of available screen width, extensions are more easily accessed, so are back and forth buttons.
