Magic Maps: Usability Questions

Hello,

Magic Maps is installed by /e/ as default navigation app. As this app is provided by OS it unfortunately cannot be deleted and replaced by another navigation app.

I have found at least three things that drove me up the wall - and therefore there is probably an easy fix.

(1) Main map window:
Though I have set map to use 2D-mode always Magic Map keeps displaying map in angled mode (not straight from above like ordinary maps). How can I turn this behaviour off?

(2) Record GPS track:
I tapped the button to record a footwalk GPS track. It apparently began recording and I put the phone away in soft pouch.
I suspect that Magic Map has asked for the file name at an early stage at beginning of my foot walk which I did not notice while it was stored away until end of walk, so app had to buffer all GPS data until then. I have to state that the app did not ask for file name after I started GPS tracking immediately.

(3) Loutspeaker Mute sign button
I would expect this to mute all voice prompts given by the app, but it actually refers to traffic hazard warnings to be turned on/off in detailled menu. That is far from what I had expected from this button.

Currently I end up with wanting to install an alternate GPS nav app and close down Magic Map - maybe, as a nav app is not essentiontal for the OS to be useful at first place could it be an idea to consider removing this map altogether and leave to user which nav app to install?

(1) yes, that’s annoying…
Slide down from top to bottom of screen with two fingers to get proper 2D view… May have to be repeated every once in a while…

(3) set volume to zero in settings: general: sounds

In case that suffices your need to get rid of the app you can simply deactivate it:
Settings of device: apps: maps: deactivate

Try organic maps, very clean, simple and basic UI…

You can install any maps App you like anyway, and /e/OS mainly caters to a not so tech-savvy target audience, so /e/OS comes with a maps App, just like other OSes do, from which /e/OS tries to draw the users away to itself, so there shouldn’t be too much amiss when moving to /e/OS.
