I have a murena.io account and another email account in the /e/OS Mail application. I would expect that I get a push notification when an Email arrives in one of these accounts. However, nothing happens. I can sync manually after opening the Email app, but its never done automatically. Is this a (known) bug?
In the settings under “Fetching Emails” I’ve set the “frequency of email receive” to 15 min and the “Push Folders” to “Main Folders” for both accounts. Furthermore I disabled the background synchronization in the general→network settings, but the problem is there even when background sync is switched on. I cannot find any other settings related to Email sync.. do I miss something? I also looked in the murena.io cloud workspace to see whether IMAP push must be explicitly activated or so, but didn’t find any related setting there. IMAP push only would be my preferred setup, if it would work correctly.
My /e/OS version is 3.2 on a Fairphone 6.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance
Push notifications are not active by default. Active is cyclic polling of the mail server in a given interval.
You can activate push notifications on your own and stop cyclic polling which also leads to a measurable less data traffic and accu consumption. This is done in the mail app settings per account (because it depends on the mail server) in the mail receiving section. See my answers here for more.

Okay, please tell me how to actually activate Push notifications. I’ve read your answwers in the other threads, but did nowhere find this small piece of information. The keepalive setting is at 24min for both accounts. Is it only that setting that must be active?
I just cross checked the murena.io email account with Thunderbird and FairEmail, by sending a test mail from another account. I get Email synch and notifications with both those email clients on my phone, but none with the stock email client. Thunderbird looks a lot like the stock email client, FairEmail a little different… guess if all else fails I will use FairEmail instead.
Yes, that’s it. The keep-alive interval must be short enough so that the server doesn’t forget your device but long enough to have not superfluous traffic. 24min is rather a good value.
Ah, there’s also an option named “Folder poll frequency” (the fourth from above), set this to “Never”.
Thunderbird does cyclic polling. But Fairemail works very well with push notifications only (not at all easy to administer there).
If it still doesn’t work I would try to clear the cache of the Mail app and reboot the device to be sure the app is indeed started with these settings. It did in my case work for a year or so until I went finally to Fairemail.
