I have a problem with the password in the mail app in e/os.
As I also use the Murena workspace with the corresponding mail address.
I have set up a 2-FA for the workspace and set up the system with the app password during initialization.
However, since the app password for the mail client is ALSO entered in the account settings, the outgoing and incoming mail servers return an error due to an incorrect password.
If I then change this manually to the regular password, it will be overwritten with the app password during the next automatic synchronization.
The only way currently is to switch off the automatic synchronization of Mail and retrieve the mails manually in the Mail app.
I don’t find that very convenient…
Is there another solution?
The e-mail synchronization runs further, depending on the mail clients settings, even if you disable the “automatic sync” for it.
It is necessary to disable “automatic sync”, else - as you’ve mentioned - the mail account password will be overwritten with the full account password.
If you export the settings of mail and edit (in the exported file) the accounts ID plus name to something else and re-import it, it will not get overwritten anymore, as the sync account manager doesn’t “see it” anymore.
But if you keep sync enabled, you’ll have it add a second account with the wrong password most probably.
Easiest way is to disable automatic sync in the “account manager”, set up the passwords for both incoming and sending mail servers manually and then let the mail application handle the syncing by its individual account / server settings.
