Mapa turystyczna issue with trails display

I have a problem with Polish tourist app called Mapa turystyczna. It is a great app for hiking and trekking - it shows a layar on a map with tourist trails routes. You can download those trails and display above normal google map. It has few display options what layer shoud be displayed:

  • tourist map
  • terrain
  • satelite
  • map

All except the tourist map works well. But tourist map doesn’t display properly on my FP5 with 3.1.4 A14. It shows:

There are just dots when the trails cross or on the ends of its sections and background map is not changed to “tourist” version but it still looks like “pure google” map.

Below you can see how it should look like - taken from another phone with “original” A13:

More or less the same map area.

Since it’s my first app problem report - what else shall I do - create new post on GitLab as well?

Just for clarity is this a regular Google Android phone?

Installing Version 1.15.4 pl.mapa_turystyczna.app I see that some layers depend on “Premium edition” so this may be one complcation.

Secondly is employed MapLibre, this has cropped up problematic on the forum as :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Search maplibre

Yes, it’s regular A13 on Crosscall X-5. It works perfectly. Seems like on /e/OS application has some problems applying trails layer. Maybe it’s related to using microg instead of google services?

Btw, on this A13 device I have google maps disabled.

I’ve bought premium version, but it’s only for ability to download offline trail maps. On free plan trails layer needs internet connection to use it. When I was using free version it worked good on pure A13, didn’t test on /e/OS then.

So if I get it right the problem may still occur if devs of this app won’t change MapLibre to sth else? :frowning:

I’ve just noted that on A13 when switching to trails layer the background map is the same as in the terrain mode. On /e/OS terrain layer is displayed exactly the same as on pure Android but tourist layes shows pure google map in backround instead of terrain version.

are you mainly bothered by how the maplibre layer looks vs the original google maps layer (the styling)? as in principle it can load a different maplibre layer / tileset, just it is the maplibres styling.

When I gave this a test, the missing line connecting the trail-path bothered me the most.

There’s some theme settings that the app errors on, see this pastebin, but that attribute maplibre_user_icon_shadow has unresolved theme attributes isn’t semantically close to either map layers or polylines. I speculate the exception within applyMapStyle() stops any further theming and that’s the reason elements are missing

Me too. I mentioned about background map to point another issue but I’d be lucky if I see trail lines.

your issue is mapLibres inbuilt tile-style for the type that is loaded in the layer (and maybe some unrendered elements imo) - and there’s no UI to control the style. Best chances to get someone involved is the microG bugtracker where you can post a logcat of what internal functions the app calls.

While you wait on any progress on this, I’d use something where you’re happy with the (offline) tileset and that offers to import .gpx tracks. Mapa turystyczna exports those.

If you create something automated (syncthing) from folder x on your pc to folder y on the phone, it won’t have much friction. I do this for komoot gpx → organicmaps.

I see trails locally (UK) quite faint until I zoom in where the definition of “route types” is just acceptable but really inadequate for “cross country route planning”.

The main diff between your two images seems the lack of inclusion of Hiking map offline.

However if I attempt to download the (free trial) overlay (having moved the map to Zakopane) I see

… or am I missing something?

Having said that a screenshot of the app’s MapLibre sample “square mile” locally seems to me less useful for navigating cross country than another app I use using a version of OpenStreetMap.

Maybe it is worth reporting to those responsible for the app to ask if this is the intended behaviour. I see no reported error in the logcat.

Map works only for Polish trails and some Slovak and Czech…

I read my post and it seems like offline content was available on free version on A13. No, it wasn’t. I was about to say that maps worked properly on A13. Offline content always requires paid version…

Sure, I get that … I think I see the added tourist information in your country … maybe ofc you and @tcecyk are seeing different from me … (my comment, to an extent off subject, was just about the “general quality” of MapLibre).

The non-availability of the free trial specifically of the hiking map seems connected, perhaps I am wrong.

You have made an edit since my post

but … I was questioning

I am only trying to investigate the usefulness of this app … if I was planning a hiking trip in Poland … is the free version (from App Lounge) competent on /e/OS? or is /e/OS somehow blocking (without programmatic error)?

Often apps with this sort of privacy score (0/10) https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/search/pl.mapa_turystyczna.app/ will be problematic in my experience.
