Now it doesn’t start again, just like before.
I turned on debugging again and may have succeeded in recording two failed attempts to start Maps
I went out and tried to start Maps twice at 16:02
Does this help to find the problem?

this one doesn’t have the segfaults (sigsegv). ActivityManager stops the app, but that looks like a normal exit. There’s a vold (volumed) action to check your sdcard.
For an A/B test you could eject the sdcard for 1-2 days to see if this contributes to the behaviour.
In this and before there were TTS engine exceptions, but imo they’re unrelated. But in any case you can check if you’ve set some TTS default. I’d space both changes a day each.
I hoped for a more elaborate error leading up to the segfault ![]()
Thank you for the prompt reply. The suggestion to eject the SD-card is good, after ejecting the SD-card, Maps opened normally (The SD-card will not eject while Maps is trying to start). So the simple answer is that Maps does not like the SD-card. BUT: The SD-card is reinstalled when the phone is restarted. The storage manager shows 45 GB used out of 64 GB so the simple solution would be to physically remove the SD-card because I don’t need the extra storage. But the SD-card reappears and Maps has stored all the maps I ever downloaded on it. I have tried to delete these in every possible location but they reappear. Storage shows 4.2 GB used out of 16 total on the SD-card, mostly these maps. When I delete the maps, they come back. So the problem seems to be zombie map files on the SD card.
Should I physically remove the SD-card? The only other files that I could find on the SD-card were from mapy.cz, which I have already deinstalled because it used so much battery that it discharged while connected to the powerbank. I have deleted that folder
What do you see as:
I read your observations, but do you see a working Eject button?
If Eject was fully working, I would be inclined to test with a new card. SD cards can go end of life in unexpected ways or can be recovered by format preferably on device.
Yes, that is what I meant by ejecting the SD-card, clicking on that up-arrow
Sorry to ask you to reconfirm – just for full clarification. I would not throw the SD card away first off, but is it fully readable on a PC?
So I took out the SD-card. The mobile is working fine after a quick check and Maps opens normally.
The SD-card opens normally in the PC and the file system is shown just like in the mobile.
But the only data content that I can find is the zombie maps downloaded in Maps and about 1GB of map data downloaded by mapy-cz. There is a message “this medium contains digital photos” and they can be imported into Pix. They are not photos that I took, they must have arrived with a website e.g. Prague airport.
What if I format the SD-card and put it back in? What should it be formatted as?
Most cards I inspected, not very recently, I think were FAT32. I have used that and then format on device. Others have reported other formatting options.
Maybe one would backup the contents of the card then if your PC identifies the card as FAT32, do the same again.
Alternatively
perhaps depends if you feel this is an error message or just information. If “unwanted” … you might just delete the offending directories and see what happens.
If you perceive the “zombies” as a problem, maybe, as a control, I would try a different card if it did not involve too much expense.
if using the phone a few days without sdcard will not show a magicearth crash, I’d format it before reinserting and make sure to have this set:
another logcat that has a SEGV would be interesting though, but in any case, cool you went to the length to collect them at all !
I bought the phone with 64 GB storage and that is still enough. So I will not put the SD-card back in at the moment but wait and test Maps. My installation of Maps does not seem to have the option to prefer internal storage.
