I’m just starting out setting everything up on my new Fairphone, it’s very exciting and has gone well so far!
I’m trying to use the Miles car sharing app. I’ve logged into my Google account both on the App Lounge and on my phone. I’ve installed a SIM and other similar apps work completely fine. The Miles app installs and starts without error, I see a map and can poke around the app. But when I go to the login page and enter my email address, the app freezes and eventually crashes. I’ve tried it many times to no avail. Is there anyone else successfully using this app, and is there anything I can do or share to diagnose the issue?
Hi all, i have the same issue. Fresh Fp6, i managed to install all needed apps except for Miles app. As stated in the original post by Ben : App starts normally, shows my exact location and shows cars, once i try to login with email it freezes and crashes.
Im not very tech savy so i cannot debug the logfile as recommended by tcecyk.
I hope Fairphone devs can resolve the issue in the near future. Would appreciate any resolution steps, if anyone has an idea. Thanks
same here. I contacted the Miles support and here’s what they responded. Sounds not good, but maybe somebody has a workaround, because this is the only fail on my splendid working /e/.
Heres the Miles answer:
“There is a specific technical reason why the app freezes and crashes when you enter your email address, and it’s related to your operating system.
Background: Why problems occur on /e/OS The /e/OS operating system is a Google-free (de-Googled) system. Even though /e/OS attempts to simulate Google services via microG, this is unfortunately not sufficient for the MILES app.
We use the Google Play Integrity API (the successor to SafetyNet) for the login process and vehicle control. Since MILES is a car-sharing service using physical vehicles, these strict checks are mandatory requirements from our insurance companies and safety authorities. They serve to protect against:
• Identity theft and account misuse
• Manipulation of location data (GPS spoofing)
• Use of bots or malware
Conclusion & Compatibility
Since /e/OS does not include Play Services officially licensed by Google, this deep integrity check in the background fails. The system blocks the process, which you’ll notice when the app freezes (“MILES is not responding”).
No official support: Unfortunately, the MILES app is not compatible with /e/OS and similar custom ROMs.
No exceptions possible: We cannot disable this security check for individual accounts or devices, and for security reasons, we do not offer an alternative APK version without this check.“
