Motorola Edge Plus 2023 (rtwo)

Hi. I’m wondering if the /e/OS port for Edge 40 Pro (rtwo) port works for the North American Edge Plus 2023 (rtwo). Thx!

Did you check already Install /e/OS on a Motorola edge 40 pro - “rtwo”? There is a supported model listed.

Models Supported

  • XT2301-4
    Other models are not supported

Why do you think that the USA model might be unsupported? A cause sometimes is that the bootloader is permanently locked on some / many USA models, do you know if this applies to you?

Generally the device codename is the unique identifier for a custom ROM. Were you able to
reliably confirm rtwo?

Edit I see that rtwo has a “variant” issue Info about rtwo variants | LineageOS Wiki

Hello and thanks for the reply. My device is indeed rtwo but is model XT2301-1. Now I see that Lineage has different install docs for Edge 40 Pro rtwo vs Edge Plus 2023 rtwo. I’d like to run /e/OS on my Edge Plus 2023 for more privacy from digital surveillance.

What do you want to do next?

You have found that your Edge Plus 2023 rtwo – model XT2301-1 is on the supported list here Info about rtwo | LineageOS Wiki.

In the case of the /e/OS ROM our devs have listed one model only implying this was the test device.

You might fully research installing LineageOS on your phone. (Even do it ??)

You might try to draw conclusions about whether you can reliably see the differences between install Lineage on model XT2301-1 vs /e/OS XT2301-4.
Do you feel methods are transferable?
Are you are an experimenter? If yes go to Post #5

/e/OS is a direct fork of Lineage. Good privacy can be achieved with Lineage (would make a good learning experience in itself).

If you want help with this please try to ask very specific questions and we will try to help.

Good luck

If you are unsure of “e.documentation”, you can use the Lineage docs with the /e/ files !

Hello and thanks again for the reply. While I haven’t installed Lineage or /e/OS on my Moto Edge Plus 2023, I have installed both (as well as other custom ROMs) on several OnePlus phones.

My main concern is the rtwo variants issue, how to tell whether or not the /e/OS install process will work with my variant, and what might happen if it fails. I don’t want to end up with a hardbricked phone.

hardware firmware parts related to different model-names
can vary,

but regarding android system part,
device codename (rtwo) stay (rtwo)…

Having a little trouble understanding your response. Are you saying that while the hardware may differ sightly, the software should be the same (interchangeable)?

before editing my post was simply :

(rtwo) is (rtwo)

even Lineage provide an unique build… because it is the same device

.

according to Supported devices - Google Play Help - Google Support

Retail Branding Marketing Name Device Model
Motorola moto X40 rtwo XT2301-5
Motorola motorola edge 40 pro rtwo motorola edge 30 pro
Motorola motorola edge 40 pro rtwo motorola edge 40 pro
Motorola motorola edge plus 2023 rtwo motorola edge plus (2022)
Motorola motorola edge plus 2023 rtwo motorola edge plus 2023

Oh yeah, I just clicked the variants link on the LOS rtwo page, and the pop-up does indeed say all variants use the same build. Thx for the help. I’ll give installing /e/OS a shot soon then.

I had the same error as described above after a system update from 3.2 A14 to 3.4.
Apparently, the update to A15 was performed. However, I can no longer prove this.
Only a factory reset and a complete reinstallation helped. Of course, I didn’t make a backup beforehand.
