I just installed /e/OS on my new 2024 Moto G 5G.

In terms of documentation improvements. I had to dig around a little bit to figure a few things out.

And there is an issue with the phone, unrelated to /e/OS I believe, but something it would have been useful to be aware of and take action on before I loaded /e/OS into this phone.

Documentation

  • After requesting an unlock from Motorola and going through their process, the options in the settings for “OEM Unlocking” will remain disabled for awhile. For myself, it was ~1.5 weeks before I could enable it (the phone was bought outright, carrier unlocked).
  • I upgraded to Android 15 prior to installing.
  • I had to grab the dtbo and vendor_boot images from Lineage rather than the links from the install page. It says to do this in the docs if needed and it’s needed.
  • During the flashing of the bootloader, I got an error “Pre-Flash Validation Failed” and had to boot into “Fastboot D” mode per this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH94sJ-WOtY . Doing this enabled me to complete the operation.

** Issues / FYI **

After loading e/OS for the first time, as part of the setup, I went to set the screen lock and it wouldn’t save. It kept saying "Screen lock was already changed. Please choose a different lock method…”. I was able to skip it and load the phone, but apparently the only way to fix this issue is to load the original ROM (I think- there’s a thread on this at community.e.foundation/t/fairphone-6-unable-to-set-pin-after-installing-e-os-3-0-2/71423 )

I’m very much an amateur here, but I believe as part of the install process in the documentation, I deleted that ROM with the formatting of data in the /e/OS factory reset section. So for me, there’s no going back. For another user though, they might be able to prevent this issue by disabling pin unlock in the settings before installing fogo per this thread:

Other than losing the ability to lock the entire phone, everything seems to be working well.

You would have to download the original motorola firmware and flash it using fastboot or boot on a custom recovery.
