Maybe you can help me. I have a Fairphone 6 running /e/OS 4.2. With the latest release, 4.1.1, I had some major issues with the default mail client, which I use for my Murena email. Mail retrieval and push notifications are working again, but now I’m getting the following error:
Messages could not be sent
IllegalStateException: No outbox_state entry for message with id 73
Alternatively, it shows up with other IDs, such as 75 and 76.
I suspect the error occurs when trying to retrieve new emails.Does anyone here have experience with this error?
I’m using version 6.711-7 of the default Mail app (foundation.e.mail).
(I hope I haven’t overlooked any other posts on this topic.)
When the error is “Messages could not be sent” it’s probably not related to retrieving mails from the (IMAP-)server. This error comes either from the SMTP-Server or more likely from the Mail app internally.
Did you clear the caches of the apps after update to 4.2?
The number doesn’t matter. Much more interesting is that the Mail app seems to have something to send and can’t do it.
At first I would use another mail client (on a PC or whatever) to test this specific SMTP server if sending mails works. This would be interesting to exclude the SMTP server from suspicion. I guess sending will work, this means the problem is in the Mail app.
As a hard way you could then try to export all your Mail app settings into a file, this would include your configured mail accounts. Than you could clear the entire app storage (not only the cache), after this the app is as fresh as new installed. And then you could import your settings again in the hope that any mysterious message to be sent is really gone.
Despite the error messages, I can still send emails using the default app. That still works.
It also works on a PC with Thunderbird and, of course, with the Murena Mail web interface.
Is this perhaps a mistake that I should just ignore, as long as it works, or will it come back to haunt me at some point?
outbox.. can you check your imap account if an outbox (should be “Sent”) is associated? The mapping should be pretty deep in Mail settings → choose account → Folders → scroll down to Sent - or has any other folder a missing mapping?
Every folder has an automatic mapping. I just changed the automatic setup of the folder Sent, but that has no effect what I checked again after a new restart of the phone. So the error is still there and appears regularly.
Thank you very much for the links to the fix. But I’m afraid I’m a bit overwhelmed by everything that’s written there. My knowledge doesn’t go far enough to actually understand what I’m doing or trying to…
But I would assume that this fix will eventually be integrated into the fork of the Murena mail application. Am I right?
