To distinguish between the continued regular OTA updates within the same Android version and updates including a new underlying Android version, the latter are called OTA upgrades.
They need to be specially prepared by the developers per device per upgrade step, and this will take additional time even after manual install would be available somewhen.
It’s official in the sense that it’s done by /e/OS developers on the /e/OS build infrastructure, but it is not called “official” for reasons … Different Build Types.
And switching between those two build types is a new install, wiping user data.
