My supplier says that my phone is not "registered and licensed" in Canada and does not support 5G

Rogers/Shaw is upgrading their systems and therefore telling me that my phone has to be replaced. That it is not going to work after July 1st. I have sent screenshots of LTE combined with Rogers at top of page. Three people are babbling and nothearing or seeing. Is there a paper or statement other than in phone description, that says 5G that i could send to them. Thanks

Is this the change you’re referring to? 3G network retirement - Rogers

If so, remember that LTE data and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) are two different things.

You might want to say which device you’re using and also confirm there’s a setting similar to “Enable VoLTE” or “Enable 4G calls,” etc., whenever your Rogers/Shaw SIM card is inserted in the device.

I doubt that 5G is a requirement with any carrier at the moment, as it’s not ubiquitous yet.

This might be helpful, too: How to verify device compatibility for BYOD Plan - Rogers (Even if your device was authorized before the upcoming network change.)

@Taurus yep, but i called and spoke to three different techs because my Volte is turned on, LTE is checked and the description of Murena one says it supports 5G. I sent screen shots and the third tech told me what I said above. About Canada…
I just cgecked my phone and the links you sent … Sorry i am in the process of moving and i have had one thing after another including gettkng old dishwasher out. Anyway back to 5 G
I che ked out your links and bot LTE and VoLte are activated.

@Taurus as far as the 5G technology and the company not requiring the upgrades, they are talking about July 31st. So a Murena one phone is a version that they should accept. Correct?
I just went back to the BYOD instructions. I bought my Murena one phone a couple of years ago and have always been with Rogers, so that was all checked and accepted back then. That is why this is all so surprising. I made specific inquiries with Murena ( Shenol) and they were terrific helping me. I also went through a lot of Q and A with Rogers who were not affiliated with Shaw at the time. Rogers bought Shaw. This last tech i spoke with told me that the tower they have is inadequate with only 600,000 instead of 2,000,000…is that people served?
Anyway, Im wondering, what the heck.

Hi @AnotherElk ,
Well I jumped in with my gogul hammer and started uninstalling and disabling and force stopping. I am now to the point where i cannot totally get rid of Chrome, play store, or Digital Wellbeing etc. It seems to be still listening to a “wee small voice” somewhere, and although i have Edge installed and Duck Duck go, I feel there is more to do. Would hou point me in the right direction please? Its Android 14

Can you clarify what you’re trying to accomplish with the uninstalling, disabling, and force-stopping? That all seems unrelated to your OP and the present discussion.

Oh sorry, i had been talking to a couple people about the issues im working on and @Another Elk was helping me with uninstalling ALL. Gogul lonks, apps, whatever from a brand new Lenovo tablet that i bought to instal/e/os. So quickly looked up the names and got them switched around.

That’s a tall order to try and de-google an OEM version of Android. I still have a stock Android phone as well as a phone running /e/os. At one point I thought about trying to de-google the stock Android phone and it quickly became apparent that would be a massive undertaking. I don’t think it’s worth the trouble, better to just buy a Murena phone or manually install /e/os on a phone from the support list.

Back to your OP, I keep phones a long time. I may break my personal trend by buying a new phone off the /e/os support list next year, but only because I took a bad tack when I replaced my phone last year. The next phone I plan to keep a long time.

In keeping phones a long time I’ve had to replace them twice over the years due to carrier notices saying my phone will no longer be supported. No matter how long you want to keep a phone, your carrier will force you to buy a new one at some point.

Though in your case the carrier could be mistaken. I mean if the phone supports 4G LTE and VoLTE, it should keep working. 4G LTE is going to be around for a good while yet. I wouldn’t replace the phone unless it actually quits on you.

Thank you! Actually, thats what i thought after speaking to several people. I love my phone and I still dont know all of the upgrades that have been done.
As far as the tablet, i bought it Very reasonably at Christmas as an instrument for experiment. Years ago I got pretty good with computers, then everything went going so fast that I was intimidated
And just sat back. Well Im quite abit older
And after several years of researching to find a company like Murena, Im getting brave and i want go prove to myself that this really is not any more difficult than what i took on years with experience from Microsoft seminars and training. Only this time i have been following along whats happening with the clever geeks in hete🤗

if you weed appids - there’s debloater repos on github, this has a gui and is actively maintained:

Appids down the com.google.android.* lane are eligible for removal. A user in this forum left a list - but I guess gui repos benefit from a hivemind.

Well me too. In my youth I didn’t shy away from big projects, but my threshold is much lower now. Personal computers I’m comfortable with, but I just refuse to get into it with phones. Though I’m forced into it now because of the hot mess these stock Android systems have become. And Apple has always been out of the question due to my distaste for the company. Fortunately /e/os gives me a path of fairly low resistance.

@CraigHB
Well, its difficult to know particulars in here…and thats a good thing. Appreciate your support :+1:
