Mysterious notification?

Yesterday I got the following mysterious notification:

Note: the notification has the /e/ logo.

But it’s beyond my understanding:

  • The notification came two times, in German and then in English. Why?
  • Does the term “maps” mean downloaded geographical map material for navigation apps or something totally different?
  • Which 3rd party apps are affected? My OsmAnd?
  • What’s wrong with these maps?
  • How is a device update related to such maps?
  • Why does this notification come up while my FP3 is on 4.3-a15 long since?
  • And what should I do now, I mean: what concrete update would solve this serious problem?

Sorry, but this looks like “Do something NOW!!! But don’t ask us what.”

Am I the only one with this notification? The girl uses our other device, she doesn’t have it (until now), but she also uses Organic Maps instead of OsmAnd.

You are not alone.

So essentially this was a notification that was for users on older build like v3.3 and v4.1.1.
Due to a bug, it went out to all users.
Users already on v4.2 and v4.3 can ignore it and it does not impact them.
We are working on correcting the error in this message and to send it to the intended recipient. Users on older builds should update to v4.3

Ha, the girl had also this notification days ago, didn’t tell me, deleted it silently because “That was a fake!” - this about how the message is anticipated by a non tech user.

Could someone provide insight on these topics, please?

as it affects the map layer in any app using google maps api.. must be the api key change end of september for stadia: https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/os/GmsCore/-/commits/main-rebased?message=api%20key

wrong api key, no map tiles (the content of the map)
