New Android Phone for /e/ . Best purchase and what is supported

The Oneplus 7 pro is the only real phablet. And even that one is already smaller than my phones. That’s why I said there’s basically no phone.

And a tablet? Not sure how I’m going to have phone calls or put it in my pocket.

Galaxy S9+ 6.2 inches, 1440 x 2960 pixels, 18.5:9 ratio

In preparation are:

Galaxy S8+ 6.2 inches, 1440 x 2960 pixels, 18.5:9 ratio

Galaxy Note 8.0- 8.0 inches, 800 x 1280 pixels, 16:10 ratio

You might consider a Fairphone 3. It’s not waterproof but it was released in 2019 and there’s currently a beta test running for it’s /e/ release.

Cheers. I just purchased a S9+ plus as I can’t buy from here as I am in Australia. Next steps will be to setup /e/ once I get it

Very important!

Models supported by /e/ OS

  • SM-G965F
  • SM-G965F/DS
  • SM-G965N

Other models are not supported!

shit.

What do the abbreviations mean? F, F/DS and N

Country centric?

I had no idea there were different S9+ I got off Ebay and contacted the seller. Hope to exchange or get a refund

Similar laws in Australia, I have asked the seller if they have those models, if not a refunded. Politely of course

G965F (Single-SIM) und G965F/DS (Dual-SIM) are Samsung’s Europe & Global models. If you need any help, let me know - also via PM.

So being in Australia, which is the best the European G965F or Global G965F/DS (dual sim).?

I got the order cancelled. Going to search on Ebay now.

Both SM-G965F and SM-G965F/DS
are European & Global models, none is better than the other, it depends if you need to use 2 SIM card or not.

SM-G965N is Korean model with Simple SIM
SM-G965F is European & Global model with Simple SIM
SM-G965F/DS is European & Global model with Dual SIM

Because
N means Korean model
F means European & Global model
DS means Dual SIM model

As you know radio frequency are not free, they are military proprietary.
Some radio frequency bands used are common to the differents Samsung s9 devices, some others are specific per area for technical standard historical reasons.

S9+ Single-SIM or Dual-SIM models are identical in construction - except for the second SIM slot. Flashing the /e/ OS on the G965F is a bit easier for the beginner.

In Australia, 850MHz, 900MHz, and 2100Mhz are the common 3G frequencies. (Band) B1, B3, B5, B7, B7, and B28 are the main 4G bands. If you want to use a phone in Australia, it will need to support these frequencies and bands.

Please note that it’s not enough to match just one frequency. Australian phone networks are built using multiple frequencies, and not all frequencies are available in every location. The network frequencies used in rural areas are often completely different to those used in the city.

Australian Network Frequencies LTE 4G Band(Mhz):
B1(2100), B3(1800), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B28(700), B40(2300)

Samsung Galaxy S9+ SM-G965F Network Frequencies LTE 4G Band(Mhz)
B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B13(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B20(800), B25(1900), B26(850), B28(700), B32(1500), B66(AWS-3)

The G965F supports all Australian MHz bands and LTE network frequencies except band 40.

Update
4G TDD LTE : B38(2600), B39(1900), B40(2300), B41(2500)

@elliotrock,
my personal favorite of the Samsung’s supported by /e/ OS is the Galaxy S8+ SM-G955F “dream2lte”. Why? Because for the S8+ the /e/ OS version 9-pie will be available soon. The tests¹ are already running.

The displays are the same size: 6.2" (full rectangle); 2960 x 1440 (Quad HD+), dual edge Super AMOLED display, the performance of the S8+ more than enough.

The S9+ on the other hand still works with /e/ OS 8-oreo. A migration to 9-pie is planned, but it will probably take some more time for the S8+

¹Tests with /e/ OS ROM e-0.8-pie on my S8 plus “dream2lte” are very satisfying, except for a few small things.

I have a S9+ Plus G965F hopefully arriving today. I bumped into a mate today with one, nice as phone.

I am going to set up /e/ on it once it arrives.

Is it already available for the S8+? Or why do you suggest it? I only find it compatible with S8 (non plus and in beta version) on the website (I have an Exynos S8+ and I am really looking forward to that moment!)

An e-0.8-p-build for the “dream2lte” has been tested for two weeks at /e/. I assume that it won’t take too long until an official e-0.9-p-ROM (beta) for the Galaxy S8+ is released.
