Yes, just try it!
It was doable for me which means in total it was not all too complicated, still it was a steep learning curve, mostly about being brave enough to just go for it (it was the second device I flashed so that mostly applies to my previous device as I already had some experience when I started the tablet) and in hindsight it´s much easier than it reads in the beginning…
The howtos and tutorials in the forum are good enough for a beginner like I once was.
Here´s a good starting point as you need a compatible device anyways…(search options: filter for “device type: tablet”)
(I chose the Samsung TabS5 because I got it for a very reasonable price and the hardware-specs are not too “old” and there´s not too many tablets in the list anyways and one could say that Samsungs are rather costom-Rom-friendly - from what I perceive…if you have a device in mind it´s worth checking the device-specific threads in the forum for typical errors or issues that might be manufacturer- or device-specific or other hints)
It´s definitely worth reading a bit before actually doing it in order to get a well enough mental picture about what you´re actually doing in the process of flashing a custom Rom - well it was for me… and then set up your equipment and download everything beforehand etc. so you can focus on the process later here´s my report.
I did it with a win-pc, no experience doing it with linux but as soon as you drop your help request (in case you need help) in the device specific area you´ll be amazed how much support you get
