New FP6 installing e/OS using Mac

Hi, this year I want to degoogle completely and for this I bought a new FP6. I have been reading this forum for a while now trying to understand if it is save to start installation from a Macbook. It looks like more people have tried.

The installation instructions do not mention Mac specific. Are there suggestions from people that have tried this how to start. Try first the WebInstaller and resolve problems if it fails or is it better to do the manual way from the start.

Does anyone know if there are prerequisites for the MacBook. Mine is already 10 years old.

My FP6 has a security date of 5 May 2025 so I should be very save in locking boot loader again I understood from the documentation.

Hello @Ronzou, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

Thanks for the prompt reply and I think this would work for me.

Question about this message: Your Stock OS Android version, must be the latest available relative to the /e/OS build you want to install → not higher !

Does it mean I need to update my phone to a version that is closer to the e/OS security version ? my Phone says 5 May 2025. Or it is ok as long it is lower. I have seen other PH6 that have higher versions then mine. I guess it has been a while in stock at the shop.

i your case of a FP6, it means android 15, not android 16

according to https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/24463713641234-The-Fairphone-Gen-6-Release-Notes

Current Fairphone version

FP6.QREL.15.162.0

Release date: 15 December 2025
Android version: 15
Security patch level: November 2025

Previous Fairphone versions

FP6.QREL.15.151.0

Release date: 10 November 2025
Android version: 15
Security patch level: October 2025

when current /e/OS version

e-3.3-a15-20251210556408-official-FP6.zip include

so if your intention is to relock the Bootloader there will be no obstacle.

Worked like a charm. How easy was that. Thanks for all people that made this possible.

I would like to ask you one more question. I have an issue with an App that someone on the forum fixed by upgrading the e/OS version and then locking boot loader again. I am on a higher version then when he fixed the issue. Could locking boot loader have impact on Apps as I have one more app behaving strangely.

If I would lock it again can I then use the last steps from the provided instructions above or would the process be different now that I have used the phone already ? Would a backup be enough to not lose the installed apps etc on my phone ?

I would suggest that testing the Seedvault backup early in your /e/OS journey is a good idea.

Seedvault is non complete. As you set it up you will be warned which apps back up and which (for various reasons) won’t backup. Decide if you need a different backup strategy for some apps. If you use Murena cloud, ensure you understand all that is backed up and any significant omissions. I also abd pull -a -a is to preserve timestamp the contents of internal storage to PC. (This last however is not a one-stop way to back up apps.)
