Hello,
I am wondering to buy one of the latest Motorola models, Moto edge 50 neo, which has 12GB ram memory and 512GB storage. My question is: would I be able to get /e/ OS up and running on that device? Would it be a straight way to install it?
I know there is a list of compatible phones at murena.io, but newer models are not listed. I would like to have /e/ OS in a powerful device.
Kind regards.
LineageOS supports new phones quicker than /e/os and since /e/os is forked from LineageOS, if you see a new phone in their support list you’ll probably see it in the /e/os list within a few months; LineageOS support list
It takes some time for new phones to be supported and not all variants of a model either. Looks like the Edge 50 Neo released 8/2024 so it might appear in the LineageOS support list in a few months, then another few months to see it in the /e/os support list.
If you’re in a hurry to run /e/os, you might want to go with the Edge 40 Pro (model XT2301-4) and not the Edge 50 Neo. The model number shown in the list is important. Not all variants are supported.
On the way looking for a new phone (due to my S10e having [probably hardware related] camera issues regularly) I stumbled upon the Edge 50 Neo as well.
Coming from Sony Compact series long time ago it is f***n hard finding a device that is not as huge as a tablet but still able to use /e/OS (or similar at worst). And the 50 Neo is a little bit smaller thant the 40 Neo.
Still - it is “way” bigger than the S10e with its 5,8" display and 142mm length but also “significant” smaller than what got my interest first: CMF/Murena Phone 1 (6,67", 164mm).
I second piero - modern phones released with or past Android 10 have a good chance of most periphery to work in generic system images (gsi). It’s a great simplifier from a ROM builder perspective.
I’d watch the Motorola list at TrebleExperimentations for feedback from newer Moto users. The Edge 50 Neo not being listed means there’s no feedback yet, but I’m sure it can boot a GSI.
