News App (Handelsblatt) fails to load articles

I am using the “Handelsblatt” news App. It is able to connect to the internet to load the current article overview (the start screen, if you wish). However, it is not able to load any articles when you click on a headline. The message “no connection to the internet” appears.

This behavior started about a year ago out of a sudden. Only this app is affected. Many app updates and several new versions of e.os later, the problem still persists. On a different android device, there is no such behaviour.

Is there any way to trouble shoot what is going on? I suspect a setting preventing the app to load articles (may be related to eOS’s privacy features).
Alternatively, is there a way to make a deeper uninstall than what you get offered when pressing the app button a bit longer?

the app is starting a webview instance, then things are failing. It’s calling to the Billing API too. Not much to go on in terms of explicit errors, just some circumstantial errors, see pastebin. Telling that cromite as Browser can’t open individual articles either, even with its adblock disabled.

Using Firefox and pinning to homescreen I guess?

That said..

… publishers really aren’t your pal when it comes to the Apps and Websites they build. Checkout iq digital (HB et. al. publishers marketing agency) and their utiq integration (aggregating web interactions to mobile identifier and physical isp at home). They want a piece of the cake that Google is munching on, but really can’t say to what benefit it is other than holiday homes for marketers in Italy instead of Southern California.

Thanks for this explanation. Okay, may be I simply accept that it is an inherent property of my system rather than settings which could be changed.

Using the website on the browser (firefox) definitely works, albeit slower than the app. On Fairphone 3 (still running!)
