No Android 14 for Fairphone 5?

I was expecting the U version upgrade for FP5 with the 2.6 rollout, but now that it finally arrived in the updater, it is still T. What is going on here? Did I miss something specific in the announcements? As I remember right, such upgrades were possible or done for my FP3 via updater.

Hi,

Maybe all the dev team is working on the Drive problem who needs more support than expect.

Be patient or if you want Android 14, install CalyxOS.

Thanks. I thought I was following the announcements quite closely. Didn’t expect, there were still resources put into minor updates for T for FP5, when the talk was all about U, even though I appreciate this in between effort.

/e/OS U for FP5 is only available as a community build (dev) for now, but then you have to upgrade manually.
If you have installed the official build (stable), you will be offered the upgrade OTA. This will be announced in the weekly Development and Testing Updates :

Sorry to kick in on this topic, I’m a little confused about what’s going to happen in the futur:
My FP5 is stating that my current version is ā€œ/e/OS 2.6.3-t-xxx-official-FP5ā€
Does this mean that I just have to wait and at some point in the futur, one of the proposed automatic update will bring me to the U version / android 14 based? Or do I have to manually install a U version if I ever want to get android 14 based version of e/OS?

I noticed the same thing, I also thought I had Android 14 on my Murena Fairphone 5 long ago, but even with V.2.7 it is still ā€˜T’.

But maybe you can take comfort from my experience with ā€˜U’, because that’s what I have on my Murena tablet (also with V. 2.7)! And what can I say? It hardly makes any difference to /e/OS ā€˜T’, apart from a few trivial setting options…

I’m not seeking to switch to android 14 as fast as possible, I’m just wondering if this will come or if I have to do something by myself to update to newer version of android.
My FP5 has be installed by myself, it’s not a murena phone btw.

Than you can switch to the community-build - afaik there is one for Android 14…

Yes but that would require a manual reinstall from me which I would love to avoid.

My question is: given what’s currently installed on my FP5, will I get at some point an automatic update to switch to android 14 / U version ? I don’t care if it’s in 1 year from now, I just don’t understand if this will come at some point or not.

… applies to FP5, too.
The next Android version upgrade for FP5 is currently listed as ā€œTo be plannedā€ … Week 5, 2025: Development and Testing Updates
