No App Lounge updates for quite a while

Hello,

My phone is an FP4 on Android 14 with /e/ OS version 3.2-a14-20251022539005-official-FP4

For a few weeks, some apps ask for an update and now some stop working because they complain about not being up to date. In the App Lounge the only app that could be updated is OsmAnd which I update via F-Droid, not the App Lounge.

My bank app, postal app and a few more ask for updates.

The bank app stopped working, I went to the in-app site in the App Lounge. There it showed the possibility to update the app which I executed. The update went smoothly but it wasn’t shown it in the update list. Is there a problem with the App Lounge? Do I have to update each and every app with this tedious process? I could use the Aurora Store, but I want to avoid that.

The system seems to be up to date. Last update was on 2025-10-22.

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online services

could you:

  1. make sure the device auto-connects to an available wifi (no vpn, no mobile data)
  2. plug the device into a charger and
  3. reboot

Then after reboot, go to AppLounges “Updates” tab. It should scan for possible updates, offer them up and be done in bulk with “Update All” in upper right.

If a “refresh session” popup is shown - in my experience you can ignore it, the updates will go through anyway.

It worked! In the past it worked also via mobile data and the obligatory Wireguard VPN. Why was this needed?

it avoids adversarial conditions. No risk of the code thinking you’re on a metered connection, your battery level is sufficient to run updates and there’s a broadcast receiver to check for updates on (re)boot.

  1. onlyOnUnmeteredNetwork
  2. setRequiresBatteryNotLow
  3. BOOT_COMPLETED

vpns are at risk of being disrupted by 1.

I guess so, but why did it work in the past?

Thank you for your help!

you’d need to read the logcat of AppL while connected to the VPN to get told if that blocks the update-all process, imo very likely.

Can’t say what has significantly changed the last 12 months. The merge requests can probably tell. Last significant change in network behaviour was in Jan 2024.

Hello everybody, I am having the same problem, tried clearing storage and rebooting but no changes - the Update All Page does not load at all, App Lounge in general takes very long to load.

I’m on FP5, Android 15, e/os 3.2-a15-20251022539003-official-FP5 and I do not speak Github :smiling_face_with_tear:

Rebooting as in turn off and on again?

Yes, disable mobile data and only allow wifi.

Plug into USB charger

restart/reboot the FP5

the FP5 has in versions <= /e/OS-3.2 a defect where it wouldn’t report opengl support properly. 3.3 will fix that

So if a few Apps will not update even after ensuring those conditions, then it’s up to that (most Apps require declared opengl support).

There’s a workaround that I can link if you do not want to wait until v3.3 arrives.

oh if the next version will update without issue then I can wait no problem, thank you!

App store has barely worked for me at all on my Murena Fairphone over the last 6-8 weeks or so. It started as intermittent and got worse. It may have been happening longer based on the fact that when I installed an alternative app store called Aurora it updated most of my apps immediately.

I am hoping that this 3.3 update people are talking about will address it but I am skeptical to be honest at this point.

When is 3.3 due? Still unable to update/install apps. Also … government notifications

Hi everyone
I’ve met the same issue on my Fairphone 4
I’m not using VPN, I use wifi as recommanded , i disable mobile Data, plug into usb, restart ( procedure multiple times ).
i’m unable to download any app.
Trying too reseting App Lounge account ( i use anonymous account) : no effect

There are a bunch of threads on this topic. For anyone not following another thread, I can confirm the 3.3 release fixes this. It is still a little slow to find updates, but it no longer falls over.
