Nothing CMF Phone 2 Pro

Loved the CMF phone 1, so having /e/OS on the Pro 2 would be even better.

Same, but there are a few moving parts there.

Thus far, Nothing has been pretty good about allowing their phones to have their bootloaders unlocked, but they don’t exactly make it a flagship feature, so it’s possible they’re moving away from it…we’ll have to wait until someone, anyone, makes it known.

Similarly, we’ll have to sit tight for a LineageOS drop. I’m not in the dev channels, but I do know that I haven’t seen a LineageOS release for the 3a or 3a Pro, which have been around for a few months now.

The more interesting question about a release for the CMF Phone 2 is whether /e/ may have some sort of inroad. For some time, /e/OS was the only aftermarket ROM available for the CP1. Conversely, the CP1 hasn’t been available for purchase on the website for some time, yet the /e/Foundation website lists them for purchase.

Clearly someone at /e/ has the number of someone at Nothing, but even in that, I don’t know how deep that relationship goes. I was unable to find any kernel sources for the NP3[a|a pro], and not only is there an absence of a port of /e/OS for it, there isn’t so much as a forum thread for those handsets over on XDA, let alone Lineage ports or other ROMs for either one of them. I haven’t been able to find any Telegram rooms for them, either (No clue why Telegram has become as popular for ROMs as it is, but that’s a separate topic)

If there’s a plan for /e/ and Nothing to have some sort of joint venture beyond the CP1, it’s either behind an NDA, it’s contingent upon the success of the /e/OS variant of the CP1, or it’s in its infancy and neither side wants to go on record about it yet.

Circling back to your original thought, though, I am hoping for more /e/OS ports to Nothing hardware in general, and I’d definitely love to see more official builds, including for the CP2. Ronnie’s build for my Nothing Phone 2 is fantastic, and I’d like to stay with Nothing because they seem to have a fantastic balance between quality and price (and I love the disco ball on the back)…but I’m more loyal to /e/ than Nothing, so I’ll be watching right alongside you!
