Hello, having recently acquired a cmf1 running Android 15, I wanted to upgrade it to /e/OS. It turned out to be problematic and even risky to downgrade to /e/OS, which is currently running on android 14.
After a lot of effort and research (thanks to the /e/foundation forum!) I decided to wait for the Android 15 version of /e/OS.
But Nothing is still offering me new updates for nothing 3.0. It seems to me that updates are important for security.
Hence my 2 questions:
do you think I can continue to accept updates as long as it stays on android 15 without delaying my future switch to /e/OS? Or should I stick with my current version?
Is there a way to know when will /e/OS android 15 for cmf 1 be available?
Based on my many years of experience with e/OS, I would say that it will take at least another two years. Because I bought a brand new Fairphone 5 from Murena and even after two years I’m still on Android 13.
Well you don’t have a choice. Security updates are forced. There’s no way to stop those unless you root your phone and do some wrenching on the nuts and bolts.
Now major version upgrades you can deny and I definitely would hold off on those while waiting for an /e/os release.
Holding off on major version upgrades is annoying through. The phone will nag you to death with notifications and full screen prompts. I have an OEM Android phone that’s prompting me to update to Android 15. I’m not ready to do it yet because there’s big changes to the settings section and I don’t want to deal with it right now. The nag level is truly amazing, every day with a full screen prompt and every few hours with a notification. Those Google people are devils.
Updates of e/OS a14 seem to be stopped. Last update is from march 22. Perhaps this indicates that the foundation is working on a larg system update bringing android 15 to e/OS ?! I hope this is the case.
