Notification system

I have a question about the notification system in /e/. Which is it? Is it FCM or another? Is it safe to switch notifications on?

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/ the unGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

yes, microg implements FCM - https://github.com/microg/GmsCore/wiki/Google-Network-Connections

safe… it is transport-encrypted, so confidential between you and Google-the-distributor. Read this for some insight - https://github.com/microg/GmsCore/issues/1859

Thank you. I try to avoid Google a.m.a.p. Have no Google account and no apps with trackers on my phone, even not with Firebase analytics.
What happens when I switch off notifications on my Murena Pixel 5?
All those little green notifications on apps that have been used, are they part of this system too?

Mail / sms / missed-call / calendar-event notifications are outside FCM.

All messenger apps you additionally install should use FCM though. Unified push is making some headways, but it will take time.

If you have some habit of checking notifications when you’re up to it and not into receiving synchronous communication (call notification on those messengers), I think you can give it a try disabling FCM.

(the /e/ article on FCM isn’t bad - https://doc.e.foundation/calls_to_google_servers.html - didn’t link this in the answer)
