Ok to download Google Webview?

My phone is directing me to download this -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.webview

All OK? Thanks

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/ the unGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

It will have all of the Google Chrome-esque telemetry, but isn’t as horrifyingly insecure as the included WebView.

So a necessary evil, that’s better than the included one?

I found I didn’t need to download it if I used a different browser.

But overall you think its better to have this one?

Thanks

What’s interesting is why Google’s webview is being recommended. The package name doesn’t match anything in /e/ so it shouldn’t be offered up at all.

Could you exolain “My phone is directing me to download this” a bit more. What part or app is directing? Just curious.

Hi, I bought a New Year video greeting card from a developer. He sent me a link from which I could check the video was correct and chose thumbnail, animated thumbnail and download. I opened in e/os browser, then the screen in the attached photo appeared.

When I opened the link

in Firefox, it opened no problem.
