Oneplus 7 Pro unlock bootloader does not work [SOLVED]

I bought another Oneplus 7 Pro GM1913, I tried to use easy install but I get stuck unlocking the bootloader. Tried the manual installation method but exactly the same problem.

I am getting this error message

fastboot oem unlock
FAILED (remote: 'Device cannot be unlocked for technical reason.')
fastboot: error: Command failed

Chat gpt says sometimes you have to wait for a week to be able to unlock the bootloader after a factory reset.

Any suggestions are very welcome. Maybe one of you guys have a idea @piero @voorstad @aibd perhaps?

Thanx a lot!

Yes, you have to rollback to Android 11 to unlock:

This is a Oneplus bug in Android 12. Seems you forgot about it. .That is why I document it on this forum.

Oh, and don’t feed ChatGPT. You need to put water in the USB port and leave it with some salt for about a week. The error Command Failed dissolves itself when singing or whistling the Birds song. Sometimes the A-team tune helps as well.

Thank you very much. This is the oneplus 7 pro not a Oneplus 7. I managed to install e/os on a Pro before using the side load method. At least when I remember correctly. The files in your thread are not accescible any more

A month ago I did install eos on a Oneplus 7 pro. Did you read my comment about changing the prefix URL? Oneplus moved the files download to AWS.

The EU file for the Oneplus 7 pro links to:

https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlus7ProOxygen_21.E.41_OTA_0410_all_2112101752_downgrade_3821c2d4496c48fc.zip

And needs to be changed into:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlus7ProOxygen_21.E.41_OTA_0410_all_2112101752_downgrade_3821c2d4496c48fc.zip

Have fun!

Sorry, to many hours of trying ;-). Did not read good enough. It worked!

Good!

Did you whistle the birdssong or the A-team tune to get the error solved?

One last question. What should the downloaded file be renamed in?

 :joy:  of course I did

If I remember correct, you can just use the downloaded zipfile. The manual update gives the extract option.

It says it refuses to downgrade to avoid boot mistakes.

Famous last question. I just put the file in Downloads if I remember correct

Got me there ;-). It refuses to downgrade. I tried installing it following the below guide lines. It then gives me a verification error.

Go back to Settings -> About device -> Up to date -> Click the top right button -> Local install -> Click on the corresponding rollback package -> Extract -> Upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%

Not sure. Seems renaming is important. Can’t remember, Did you try renaming to:

OnePlus 7 Pro (EU)

It did recognise the file with the older update app. I am now back in 11. Time to check if it will unlock, I will let you know once the mission is accomplished ( thanks to you).

Update: System got unlocked huurah!
Got stuck again at “Flashing additional partitions”.

Will proceed tomorrow.
Wonder if I just can’t flasg recovery image and ADB side load e/os
to bypass this problem.

PS C:\platform-tools> .\fastboot flash dbto dtbo-e-2.9-a14-20250321478411-community-guacamoleb.img
Warning: skip copying dbto image avb footer (dbto partition size: 0, dbto image size: 25165824).
Sending 'dbto' (24576 KB) OKAY [ 0.550s]
Writing 'dbto' FAILED (remote: '(dbto_b) No such partition')
fastboot: error: Command failed

Update:
Turned out to be a typo
Mission accomplished ! Thanx a lot!

You see, all installation errors for /e/os can be solved by whistling a good song! :hugs:

And someone willing to listen to your tune
