Open Source Solutions Catalogue(s) - please share your ideas

We live in pretty shaky times right now. Therefore, it seems to be a good timing that European Union recently launched a portal called the EU Open Source Solutions Catalogue (EU OSS Catalogue). A good source of inspiration for lovers of Free and Open Source Software - and even more for all those who aren’t yet. The EU platform is part of a bigger project to showcase solutions for interoperability.

  • It is definitely worth to have a look (even if you do not live in EU) and to share it.
  • And it is definitely worth to contribute to the platform, as projects listed probably get a good visibility among political decision makers. (It seems that /e/ is not (yet) listed there.)
  • In case you know other platforms promoting Free and Open Software and other interoperable solutions, do not hesitate to share them below - especially those ones who target new and mainstream audiences and potential decision makers.

We do not only live in troubled times, but as well in times where new and hopefully more resilient pathways could be chosen. Let’s make sure that our societies become more robust and Free and Open Software plays a more prominent role in it. Let’s help make community driven solutions leaving the niche.

what this is:

a metadata standard for repositories containing software developed or acquired by the Public Administration

setup a publiccode.yml and let the crawlers do the rest within national code forges. The latter being at best government run gitlab instances or mostly really github. The product of the crawling are these (supra)national directories for topical discovery. I guess it can’t hurt

Hi guys,

I know a similar website to this but with less focus on open source software - > https://european-alternatives.eu/

Also, I do like https://opensourcealternative.to/ or https://www.fosshub.com/ when I’m looking for tools. They don’t focus on the EU, though.
