Outlook Setup Fails - Something Went Wrong

My employer uses Microsoft for email, and I need to have Outlook on my device for accessing email and calendar along with MS Teams for the occasional meeting on the go. Unfortunately I am unable to get the app authenticated and working.

Steps taken:

  1. Install Outlook App from App Lounge
  2. Opened Settings → Advanced Privacy → Outlook → Disabled tracker control
  3. Open Outlook App
  4. Click Add Account
  5. Enter email credentials and selected continue
  6. Entered password to the Microsoft Account login page then clicked continue
  7. After some flashes of loading circles, get to a error page stating the following: “Something went wrong. Wait a few minutes and try again. If problem persists, then contact your IT help desk.”

I tried changing some settings in the default browser, like setting Do Not Track to off, disabled Secure DNS, and switching it to not block all third-party cookies. I also cleared the data on the browser, along with the Outlook app.

This is happening prior on 2.3-t, and still occurs after updating to 2.4-t. It also occurs on a second phone still on 2.3-t.

I recently installed and setup /e/OS making the move from LineageOS for microG. The Outlook app worked fine on that ROM, so there is something blocking it that I have not found in /e/OS between its privacy features or different default browser that is causing an issue.

Does anyone have this working on 2.3-t or 2.4-t that can tell me what I am missing? I am really like /e/OS as I have been using a Murena Workspace for a long while now and love how it integrates so well with /e/OS, and am hoping i can migrate many of my family members over, getting them away from Google.

Thanks in advance.

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

You may need to install Intune Company Portal.
I strongly advise to isolate these apps in a work profile, for example using Shelter.

Thanks for the response. I don’t know what Intune is, but I don’t think my company has it, and it isn’t required. I can login fine to Outlook on other phones on either LineageOS or a Google Phone.

I will take a look at Shelter as that does sound like a good way to isolate it from the rest of the phone. Thanks.

Update: I was able to configure Outlook just fine on a LineageOS device. At one point, the process does route to go to the companies 2FA provider and I think that is where it might be getting hung up.

I also attempted to log into Jira through my company, which uses the same MS Account SSO connection. Initially, attempting to login, which Jira launches the authentication into a browser window, it initially was hung up on the 2FA url. I made a change in the /e Browser to not block HTTP redirects which solved the issue for Jira.

Outlook is still an issue. I have tried to switch to an alternate default browser, but Outlook does it inline, I think using Webview and it is likely something that isn’t working right in Webview that is the problem.

Thanks.
