Owntracks location sharing

Hi folks,

Any experience with using owntracks.org on e? I’m after a private location sharing app to see device real-time location.

The (excellent) docs have an interesting bit:

The OwnTracks app runs in the background on your Android or iOS device and waits for the smart phone to tell it that the device has moved, whereupon OwnTracks sends out a message with its current coordinates

Wondered how this works with e. How does e keep track of where it is? Would this be good for live tracking?

Owntracks was explored in this thread and was reported as running Location Sharing - #10 by newts.

Thanks. I did see that, but wanted to ask as it’s an old thread and I can’t reply to it.

I have had own tracks running, with a home assistant back end, for a few days now. Going OK. It can take a while for updates to send. Works great if the phone is unlocked and app open. Less so in the background.

I am going to continue searching for an Apple FindMy replacement, which seems to be more peer-peer communication.
