Parental control and problems updating on /e/OS 2.2?

Hi everybody,

I have some questions regarding parental control, maybe someone can help?
I am using a Fairphone 3 (Android 12, /e/OS Version 1.18-s-20231207360611-stable-FP3).

Now I got my daughter a smartphone (Samsung A21S, currently running on Google Android 12) and need some kind of parental control for her phone on my Fairphone.

I was planning on using Google Family Link, but now I realized e/OS/ released a parental control, too, with /e/OS 2.2.

Now I have some questions:

  1. Would /e/OS parental control work for controlling my daughter’s standarstandard Android device? Or do both devices need to to run on /e/OS?

  2. For some reason, my phone is still running on 1.18-s-20231207360611-stable-FP3. I checked for updates or new versions, but Updater keeps saying there are no updates available. I already emptied cache and storage of the Updater app, but that didn’t help.

  3. In case I can’t use /e/OS parental control, would Google Family Link work on my /e/OS device? This is not what I prefer, though…

Is there anybody out there who can help with these issues?

Thanks a lot in advance!

  1. no, they’re fundamentally different software with /e/ Parental Control being less capable. At the moment /e/PC isn’t connected or has app-based (or overall) time restrictions, rather app-age-restriction and DNS based blocking by age group. /e/PC doesn’t need another /e/PC device yet to be configured, it’s standalone.
  2. I’d put this into an extra thread. The official (former “stable” release branch) has an Android13 (t) version, you’re on Android 12 (s).
  3. there is a report of GFL working - Feedback for v2.6.3 - #201 by jmzama

Thanks a lot, @tcecyk!
