Photos and files not uploading

Today I realized that the last file uploaded to my Murena account is from 2025-09-03.

Things I’ve done:

  • Resetted my main password, updated the Mail app accordingly
  • Generated an app password for the Account Manager, sync’ed manually, the UI says “last synced” right now
  • Double checked that “Pictures and videos” is enabled on Account sync
  • Took a new picture, sync’ed again

Still, nothing appears on Sign in to murena.

I’m not sure what else am I supposed to do, or how can I debug this issue.

You might try the relatively new Re-authenticate found from

Settings > Accounts > your_Murena.io_account > My Account (overview) > Settings (Additional) > Tap the solid blue section (is your ID) > top right “gearwheel” settings icon > Re-authenticate

(If you find it hard to find a Search will find posts with some screenshots.)

I saw a couple of screenshots (thanks for the search link) but I don’t have such option on my FP4, I have 3.6 with Android 14 installed.

If I actually can’t do this, is the solution to unlink my account from my phone and add it again? And if so… is that safe, or will I lose local data?

Any other troubleshooting steps I can take?

It might be worth checking, if not already done, that your Murena account has Client synchronisation checked

Forgot to mention, I also did at the beginning. Still no dice.

Status update.

Removed the account, restarted the phone, added account again. (This triggered the 2FA process by the way, so no “app password” needed, contrary to what the documentation says.)

Mail is working. And now the phone shows a notification from /e/Drive saying “File synchronization / NNNN files to sync”.

The number is going down (good?) but my Murena workspace still shows that the most recent file is from 6 months ago.

So, where are my files going? Or worse, is my phone deleting local files? How do I know?

Status update: After the synchronization finished, my photos are now online.

Problem solved.

Reminder: I removed and re-added the account.

Weeks later this happened again. Today I had another round of troubleshooting.

Instead of using my main password I did follow the advice from the docs this time and created an app password. It wasn’t straightforward to use it though, because the main login process would fail with it. Instead, I had to click the “use a specific server” option, which would then allow me to enter an app password. At the very least, the docs need to be updated.

Then I immediately got an error message coming from my mail application. So I entered the settings, changed the authentication from OAuth2 to Normal password, entered the main password, got another error message (?), and now it’s working.

This was far from intuitive and I wonder how everybody else manages this. Anyway, I hope it’s the last time in a long while I have to re-connect my account like this.

Well, nope it didn’t work and I am hitting more authentication bugs. Will email support.

Eventually re-added the account using the main password, then the phone generated its own app passwords, and the remaining photos got uploaded while I wasn’t looking. Email is also not giving auth errors anymore.

The end…?
