Pixel 4a (sunfish): Upgrade from e/os S (stable) to T (dev)

I have noticed that e/os- S (stable) version stopped updating in Nov 2023 and I wonder whether it was possible to upgrade to T(dev) using the Easy Method direclty from S, or I would need first to Google Android 13 official stock first and then using the Easy Method? Thanks

PS: Previously I made the comand line installed

Clarification first. Are you referring to Easy Installer. Easy Installer and sunfish are affected by this issue Easy Installer always delivers Stable build ? - No, sometimes dev. A fix is hoped for with https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/devices/easy-installer/-/merge_requests/223. So this approach might be worth waiting for … but …

It looks to me that stable has current updates at Android 11 (R). https://images.ecloud.global/stable/sunfish/

While in the case of dev builds we see Android 12(S) cease update in favour of Android 13(T) (in line with /e/ policy of only one Android version supported ( the highest). https://images.ecloud.global/dev/sunfish/.

I would say no .In the case of Android 13 (T) builds in general, the upgrade can be done (from Android 12 (S) ) without format data, so this is maybe the “Easy Method” you mention.

There is not an Upgrade page for sunfish linked from https://doc.e.foundation/devices/sunfish … but there is one published by Lineage: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sunfish/upgrade/. This method would be the best path to Upgrade /e/OS from Android 12 (S) dev to Android 13 (T) dev.

Notice the different packaging of the dev builds from 1.17 onwards … this fits with the Lineage instructions to

Download the LineageOS install package that you’d like to install

As the /e/ method is not documented you may need to refer to the install page https://doc.e.foundation/devices/sunfish/install to read how /e/ deals with dtbo.img … or ask again about the detail.
