Pixel 7 Stuck on Step 16/21

I am a complete noob at anything tech, but I wanted to install e/OS to de-google my phone and take better control over my digital life. I tried using the installer, but on step 10 after it downloads the OS it wants to connect my phone in bootloader mode. The bootloader does load on my phone and is open, but when I try to click “connect” I am given a prompt on the PC that says

“Error on step: connect-bootloader

Cannot execute command connect bootloader
The device is not connected

Failed to connect: Cannot connect Bootloader
Proposal: Check connection and that no other program is using the phone and retry.”

I dont know of anything that is preventing me from connecting, but the bootloader screen says

“Fastboot Mode
Product revision: panther MP1.0 B0
Bootloader version: cloudripper-16.3-13642542
Baseband version: g5300q-250605-251024-B-14327462
Serial number: 2B211FDH2000B3
Secure boot: PRODUCTION
NOS production: yes
DRAM: 8GB Samsung
UFS: 128GB SKHynix
Device state: locked (unlockable)
Boot slot: b
Enter reason: reboot bootloader
UART: disabled.”

Where should I go from here? I am completely new to this so please explain it like I am stupid lol

I figured out how to unlock the bootloader. I am now instead in the ADB Sideload for eOS recovery and it is giving me on my phone screen the option to go back or cancel with a prompt that says: “Now send the package you want to apply to the device with “adb sideload ”… ERROR: recovery: Timeout waiting for messages from minadbd”. Any ideas on what to do next? Should I wait for the installation or is this error stopping it from installing?

At this stage you must have e-Recovery on your device already looks like this

do you still see the Android recovery?

Can be generated when sending the main ROM to original Android Recovery.

In this case can you go back to the start? [1].

Now take care to follow the on screen instructions carefully to boot into the new e-Recovery.

Expanding the crucial bit in the on screen instruction at the point I think it failed; you should avoid allowing the phone to do a standard shutdown / restart cycle. We have just overwritten the Android recovery with the Custom recovery we need a correct sequence of booting which will Boot_to_new and not boot_the_old_normal.

[1] Better than eosinstaller try Install /e/OS on a Google Pixel 7 - “panther”

Hello @enocha, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

The web installer is not in coherence with the current install method for this device, why it fails.
switch to the new “install-script” method

[HOWTO] a Clear Guide to install "IMG-e-builds" when /e/ web installer fails

I ended up looking at the manual install page and tried it - it was way easier than the installer! I wish I wouldve tried that first lol I successfully put e/OS on my phone! Im excited to try it out now  Thanks!
