Too tall phones (CMF), I want my phone to fit in my pocket!
Phones with no SD card slot (Pixel 8), how am I supposed to download offline navigation map data then?
Bad call quality (Fairphone 5 is known to have that issue), failing to deliver the very basics of what a phone should be.
Fast charging, i.e., who asked for low battery life?
The following are extremely desirable to me, and I feel like shot in the back when they don’t exist:
Replaceable battery. If I’m not mistaken, this is going to be a law in the EU anyway. I just always like to buy a spare battery when I buy a new phone.
Security updates for 5 years. I heard Fairphone 5 is hard to upgrade eOS on. We don’t want that.
Headphone jack support. Just why remove it? Some people actually like using it. No I don’t want to share the only USB port with other responsibilities like charging, when the phone can only do one or the other, but not both, plus, I don’t like inconvenient adapters either.
Durable phones. Because accidents happen. I don’t want an expensive phone just to get it broken too easily due to an accident.
Phones with low-enough resolutions and low-enough refresh rates. I’ve no problems with Full HD-like resolutions, 30 Hz refresh rate. Any higher than that should be a Pro category, in any other words, leave me alone with the battery-killer features!
Phones not designed for gaming. I don’t game on my phone, or if I do, I would do it lightly. I want my battery to survive 13 hours of travel, where I would rather use my phone and not just make it sit idle due to a too strong CPU/GPU. For example, for watching videos. I need that kind of optimized phone. I know there will be limits to this, but the more we can optimize the more hours I can spend watching a video.
Maybe not everyone shares what I think, but please, I want phones like this. Please listen to the customers.
I’m not sure the tone of this message is appropriate here.
This is the /e/OS Foundation’s community support forum, not a wall of complaints.
The development team is modest, and incomparable with a commercial Big Tech company.
What’s more, bringing a device running the /e/OS operating system to market requires lengthy porting work, partnerships, testing, certification, after-sales service, etc. It doesn’t happen with a snap of the fingers.
Perhaps you’re thinking of a particular model? If so, there’s this section:
Ah, okay, sorry, I find it a bit surprising that you’re commenting on the tone of my message when in fact, it is just the reflection of all the bad trends having been constantly annoying me for years that I see in the mobile phone industry. I wish for a change. And since there is no such device that matches perfectly what I need, which by the way, should be the need of many sane people not just mine, I can’t even suggest one. What I see is there’s this almost perfect phone, but ruined by one of their repulsive design choices. So maybe what e/OS/ needs is their own brand of phone…
To respond to @Xxpsilon, Exactly. That’s the problem with this world. Vendors think they need to make changes for the sake of making changes. Samsung Galaxy XCover 4s was a nice phone in 2017, but it got too dated. Heck, I even liked the physical buttons at the bottom! That was one perfect phone, except it had Google on it. I couldn’t find a perfect replacement ever since. I kept having to accept too big trade-offs ever to this day.
